FS9 Default Autogen Tree Excludes

All,

I'm working on my first scenery and it's coming along nicely... I've got the hang of SBuilder, Instant Scenery, and ADEX9... One issue is that there are several spots around the airport that are void of trees... These voids see to be sitting on landclasses that should have used autogen trees... I tried to "plant" trees in these autogen voids with Instant Scenery - however as soon as I stop editing the specific "BGL" the trees vanish... I'm using the "AG Tree" library... If I open the BGL again for editing - the trees return...

I found reference in the "Tree Planter" app - to a default exclusion area included around airports... It's kind of strange because other areas close to my airport do have trees... Is there any rhyme or reason to these automatically included exclusion areas ??? I did notice that when I created a "layer 7" exclusion to remove my default airport footprint - that I had trees all over the airport including the runways... So this exclusion must be linked in some manner to the airport ground texture... These voids are definitely outside the airport ground texture...

I tried to use "Tree Planter" and while this application did successfully place trees in the voids - the trees were missing the seasonal textures... They were the only leafy trees in sight during the the middle of winter...

I deactivated my project area back to the default and the voids were still present - so none of my mods seem to be causing the issue...

So - is there anything I can do to get this to work ???

Is there a way to edit the exclusion areas that are blocking my autogen ???

Ideally - I'd just like to manually plant my default trees - with seasonal textures - in these voids and have them visible when I'm flying... Possible ???

Any help greatly appreciated...

Regards,
Scott

NO TREES
ScreenHunter_02Apr110742.jpg

I'm using - UT - FSGenesis - and - GE Pro... This is the approach end of 26 @ KMGJ... I have manually planted areas outside the fence with trees via Instant Scenery in SHOT #1... If you note in SHOT #2 - this is then same area after a subsequent restart of FS9 - the same two areas are now devoid of trees - one area on the left and the other on the right as it they get close to the roads... As soon as I open the respective BGL in Instant Scenery all of my trees show up again - as in SHOT #1... If I close Instant Scenery - the trees remain until I exit MSFS and start it again... Then - the only way to get them to return is to start Instant Scenery once again... As part of my troubleshooting - I did add a new poly of a forest land-class - via SBuilder - to the left of the runway center line... The tree line still stops at the same point and would come no closer to the roads... If I deactivate my scenery entirely - the tree line stops at the same point with the default KMGJ as well... It seems to only affect "trees" as the two houses I placed in the dead zone for testing - remain in place...

I had seen mention of default exclusion areas around airports - would anyone know what controls them ? I have other areas of the airport where trees come right up to the defined poly with the base texture for the airport footprint... Is there a way to modify them so I can get the autogen trees closer to my fences ?

Honestly - I would just like to manually plant my "default" trees where I need them,,, I had also seen reference to using an old app called "Tree Planter" to use XML trees to get close to the airport... I tried this app and while it did plant trees - they had only two choices of tree sets and didn't appear to support seasonal textures... They were the only leafy green trees in the middle of winter...

Is there anyway I can convert my "Autogen" trees to XML - with the included seasonal textures - and - fill these two voids ???

Any help - greatly appreciated...

Scott

Hi Scott,

It is weird that your trees do not appear after a restart, but do when you load the BGL again. That seems to indicate something is wrong with that BGL file or that FS can not find the library used. I assume your tree library is in an active scenery folder?

I am not sure what you mean with convert the autogen trees to XML. If you used Instant Scenery to place them, they are already XML objects and not autogen.

Hi Arno,

First - thanks for taking the time to respond...
:)

Yeah - as I mentioned - I'm pretty new at this... Although I think I'm catching on pretty quickly...

I have made several attempts - deleting the entire BGL and starting from scratch - it's the same result every time...

One other fact I may have missed - this very same BGL contains more of the same trees scattered around the airport - maybe 50 or so in total - and - the other locations work perfectly... It's only the trees in these two specific locations that vanish once I exit Instant Scenery and restart MSFS...

Strange - huh ?

Thanks again...

Scott

Just a bit more information...

In the picture below I surrounded the entire airport in a forest landclass... The part marked in yellow is devoid of "autogen" trees... The part marked in yellow is also the very same problem area that my Instant Scenery trees vanish from... If I put houses or buildings in the yellow - they work fine - only trees are affected... If I manually plant outside the yellow - Instant Scenery trees work fine - and - the autogen trees come right up to the airport boundary... If I put houses or buildings in the yellow - they work fine - only trees are affected...

Oh - the airport is KMGJ - I believe this deadzone is in the basic default loadout as well...

I'll gladly share my files with anyone who wants to take a look for a cause...

LOL - this is killing me - I've spent many hours on this...

The plot thickens...

I deactivated all my "ADD ON" scenery - no change...

I decided to quickly try a different tree library to see if it works - I added some trees from the "MTtrees9.bgl"... Guess what - THEY SHOW UP...
:)

So now the problem is only related to the illustrated yellow area and specifically trees from the "ag_tree_lib.bgl" and "autogen"... Outside the yellow - they work fine as well...

Now - I was playing with exclusions in this area while I was trying to figure out SBuilder... So potentially - it could have been something I did... I have since deactivated all my addon scenery and I searched for modified files within the time frame I have worked... I can't find anything that looks like an exclusion BGL anywhere on my system... Could I have mangled one of the default files or something ???

Regards,
Scott

Hi,

It might be that there is an exclude active in some addon scenery that is causing this. Does your own addon "live" at the top of the scenery library?

Hi Arno,

My "Addon Scenery" directory is above Ultimate Terrain - however - I deactivated ALL my custom scenery as well as the "Addon Scenery" directory... Ultimate Terrain was my only non-default scenery layer active... The tree void was still present in this condition...

I then deactivated Ultimate Terrain and my autogen returned...

I then activated all my custom scenery EXCEPT Ultimate Terrain - and - my autogen remained and my Instant Scenery trees returned...

As soon as I added Ultimate Terrain back into the mix - both vanished again...

At this point it seems as if it has to be something in Ultimate Terrain - no ???

Regards,
Scott

Yes, it seems to be Ultimate Terrain contains something (exclude or so) that influences your objects.

Hi Arno,

Just a follow up...

It seems as if I had two distinct issues with the same task - which - is probably why it took so long to get a handle on...

1) My autogen issue seems to be specifically related to Ultimate Terrain's "Residential Night Lighting" - when I disable this feature in the UT Interface - my autogen behaves normally again in the area I previously mentioned...

2) My vanishing trees in Instant Sceney now seems like a separate issue... I found a recent post in the Instant Scenery forum with someone mentioning a very similiar problem - with scenery that only becomes visible when you open the BGL in the IS Interface... Sooo - as a test - I used the same objects that vanish - with ADEX9 - and they work fine... Soo it appears IS only has issues with select libraries...

I reported both issues in the respective support forums... Hopefully I'll get some help...

I do appreciate all your input - so thanks...

Regards,
Scott
