• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi I have just started to model scenery with fsds 3.5. My first question is " does this realy work for fsx? " I have spent all afternoon trying to get a simple 20x20x20 green box to show up. No way. It looks like I get the bgl file but no xml file that i can read and check out. Also I did not get the modeldef ref. after clicking ok.on the comttatchmentpiler section. see attachment. thanks

Remember to generate your object as an MDL file then compile to .bgl

It works better in FSX than FS9!!!! are your paths to the sdks correct? if not you will bounce all over and get nowhere...it happened to me many moons ago!!!

rudder - remember, you have to click on the "bin" folder and open it up when you are browsing to the modeldef.xml file.

Also, when you compile to a bgl file, it has processed both the scenery mdl and the created locating xml file. Remember that the positioning xml file is created based on the Project Properties location information.

Hi felix, thanks for your swift reply. I dont think i said what i wanted to say, i dont get asked for the "modeldef.xml" file. that is one of the problems. thanks. I am working with fsds 3.5, not 3.5.1 ( just downloaded it )

During compiling, you won't get asked for the modeldef.xml file, it remains in the background. it gets called in during the compiling process when you have a visibility, animation, or attachpoint to process.

Hi felix, this is what i am trying to say!!I havenot set up v 3.5-1 so i dont know if it will change. thanks.

Those appear to be the first time (clean) setup. If you've already installed FSDS3 and previously set up the locations, you won't see those specific dialogs when clicking the "compile options" from File->Preferences.

fsds 3.5-1

Hi felix, i found 2 modeldef files, used the one in the bin folder, compiled and found the following.

temp mdl
temp bgl-pl
temp xml-pl
temp xml
bgl in scenery folder.

still did not show in fsx, opened up the bgl file it looked ok. but i am not a expert. I have changed the airport with ADE. wonder if that has anything to do with it?. thanks.

Now you're in a place I've never gone to. My major scenery achievment has been to place a box in FS-X where my house is supposed to be, and using the attachpoint blurbs in FSDS to make a simple hard-ramp so I can drive up the ramp in the default ultralight....

In each case I created direct to bgl through FSDS.
