• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Hi there.


Are there any other guides or FSDS 3.0 than the ones in the program?
I need a professional guide that covers almost every design aspect.
 
If you're looking for something like the gmax Bible, there isn't.

What are you looking for - "enhanced" help files, or workarounds to accomplish things.

For example, lofting is something easily done in gmax/MAX, but you can laboriously accomplish it in FSDS ....

Since the documentation for a "certain" version is being processed, what sort of "enhancements" would you suggest?

I would like some guides on how to use the bolean operation to cut out windows and flaps, airbrakes, and how to make a virtual cockpit with passenger cabins or cargo rooms if it is a cargo helicopter (and even airplanes).
 
Hi Aero Files. I am not a expert but I can give you some help,on the boolean operation. In fact it is quite simple really. Just follow these steps.
1. Make a box 20h x 20w x 2d - this is the main part.
2. Make another box 5h x 5w x 10d but call it tool because this is what you are going to use to cut the hole.
Note - these dimensions will make it easy to see what you are doing.
3. Place the tool part where you want to cut the hole.
4. Now using the arrow keys select the box. This is important.
5. Then go to the Part Menu and select both parts by name. Click OK.
6. Part Menu again. Choose Boolean Operation.
7. If you go to the Part Menu and the Choose part by name you will see you have more parts than you started with.
8. On the right side there are the 2 original parts. On the left are some new parts. All the parts named tool should be placed on the right side.
9. This will leave you with 2 parts both with _bool added to the name. There is a part with box_bool1 and a part with box_bool2.
Note disregard the numbers in brackets.
10. The part you want to keep is box_bool1 - so select the part with the box_bool2 and put it on the right side.
11. This will leave you with 1 part named _bool1 on the left side
12. Now having clicked Ok to select all the parts listed on the right side, hit the delete key. This should leave you with a box with a nice square hole in it.
13. The secret if there is one is this. To be sure that you are going to leave the correct part on the left side, deselect all the parts then select them one by one and make them the current part as you do so (As I said before, you can disregard the parts that have tool as part of the name). As you go through them one by one (there is actually only 3 parts that you are concerned with anyway) you will see straight away which part is the one you want to have at the end, and this you leave on the left side. The rest you delete!
Try and let me know how it ends up.
Don't try to do more than 1 boolean operation at a time. Save, exit and start again to be safe.
 
Boolean with fsds

Sometimes a boolean operation can case little things that one did not count on. Like flipping one polygon up side down or adding points that do not need to exist thus causing an uneven look in the finished product.
So try and Isolate and back up the part you want to perform the boolean on.

My example here is a windscreen.
Back up you fuselage to a new project.
Split out the polygons that make up the wind screen F7 mouse select and split part from parts menu.
You now have a new part that is just the polygons of the windscreen
perform the booleans as you need to to cut out the windows.
When finished, group all the glass pieces and name then.
The part that exists with the holes cut out becomes the frame for the windows.
Make this the parent part for the windows.
If you are happy with the result cut the same polygons from the main model. merge projects with your new wind screen and make the frame a child of the fuselage. Now if you move the fuse the widows and frame will stay in the right place. you also have the option of smoothing or not, the frame or windows as parts rather than polygon groups.

Can you use a modified tube as a tool in boolean operations. I'm trying to cut arched windows in a model of a church using a modified tube but despite naming the tube tool when I select it by name all I get is the name tube to select not tool :confused:

Any ideas anyone ?

Yes you can change the shape of the TUBE to make your cut up the screen shot below was made by making a wall (Cube) about 80X80X1 ft next I made a tube 2 ft long and about 40ft dia. with 32 point I moved to points to the shape you see I called it Tool next you just select both parts by typing “ a” then select Boolean and then just delete the parts you don’t want.

Hmmm....:confused:

When I execute the boolean operation I get a message that reads 'Error on boolean tool'

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

Operator error :eek:

Forgot to close both ends of the tool.

Works fine now ;)
