• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS V3 Scenery Animation Problems

An animated scenery object I designed under FSDS V2 does not work in FSDS V3.

I know animation is done differently in version 3 but it seems to be riddled with bugs. I need a version 3 compiled model so I can add the .mdl file to an object library so that users can place the model with Object Placer or some such.

My model is of a Windmill. The wind shaft, which carries the sails and rotates, is tilted upwards by 5.5 degrees from the horizontal. In version 2, I was able to compensate for the tilt by making adjustments to the other two coordinates.

In version 3, any such adjustment is either ignored or some pretty strange values appear in place of mine. I have contacted Abacus, and so far, they have no solution.

Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Hi

When you tilted the shaft and sails, did you use the Transform|Rotate menu and select the 'Entire part' option? If so, you should be able to define the animation as a rotation about whichever axis points along the shaft. You shouldn't need to make any adjustments in the other two axes in this case.

And if you didn't do that, you can still realign the axis with the part by rotating the axis. Use the same rotate system but keep the shift key depressed and you can rotate the axis without moving the part again. Get the axis properly aligned with the part and then rotate the part around that axis as Cearnsh said.

A Delayed Thanks

Thanks to those who replied to my query and sorry for not following it up for over a year. I've been ten times busier since retirement and I was ultra busy before that.

I am now back with FS wallowing in all those Micros**t bugs (choose two letters to replace the asterisks which best reflects your opinion).

Penlan.
