• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSDS3 Animated Windsock Tutorial

Messages

Does anyone know if there is a tutorial available that shows how to create an animated windsock for FS2004 in FSDS3?

I have created the basic windsock (static) but am lost as to where go or what to do next.

I have searched everywhere that I can think of but can't locate one at all.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Kyle

Hello Kyle,

if you only want to get a working windsock in MDL-Format that is animated, look at this thread:
http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2593&page=2&highlight=windsock
I provided this windsock for the community and have no problem if you use it for your project.

The direct download for the windsock is here:
http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1131&d=1151522598

It is done in Gmax not FSDS but that hopefully doesn´t matter.

Hope it helps.

Hi Jörg,
I got some troubles about placing your windsock. What I did is simply change the coordinates for each xml file (so for each model) and compile them. No windsock appears in the scenery. The scale is still 1.0 . What's wrong?

thanks,
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

did you create a library with Library Creator?
My method is:

  1. Create a Library with one or more objects (Look at the downloads-section of scenerydesign.org)
  2. Place the object with SceneGenx (or ObjPlacer)

That works fine with the windsock.

Hi,
finally I was been able to place the windsock using the method you described. Thanks anyway for the reply and windsock! ;)

Hi!

Im trying but i can't place the windsock.

:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<FSData version="9.0" xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">

<!-- Sample object placement. Remove comment markers to place object east of 34R at Sea Tac. -->
<!--
<SceneryObject lat="N60* 39.4982'" lon="E13* 43.7006'" alt="0" pitch="0" bank="0" heading="0" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE" imageComplexity="NORMAL">
<LibraryObject name="CB6775E94CA2CB46ED00EA97CFFB1FC5" scale="1.0" />
</SceneryObject>

-->

<!-- Inclusion of model data. Use the 'Name' of this object to place -->
<!-- it in other locations. -->
<ModelData name="CB6775E94CA2CB46ED00EA97CFFB1FC5" sourceFile="windsock_calm_animat.mdl" />
</FSData>
I don't know what the problem is but i should be happy if anyone could help me. I placed out all three files plus the small ones that should be in scale 0.001.

Hi Navid,
can you give us some more informations about the problem.
Which programs did you use for the creation of the library? Which program did you use for the placement of the object?
What is the error-message you get and what is the problem at all?
