• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX - API macro

Hi, all

I just tried one of my scenery packages for FS9 in FSX. Most of it worked but...

Some junk planes I scattered around the field made with API macros I created appear with the texture checkered, with transparent textures in aternate polygons.

(See picture attached)

I tried DXT1 and 8bit (256 colours) formats, same result. There are no transparencies in the texture, no alpha at all.

Is there a solution for this?

Thanks

Fern

Hi Fern,

I guess it could be that the code used in the API is really old and no longer supported well by FSX. But I would need to see the code to be sure about that.

Since the texture works on the other polygons, I don't think the texture file can be blamed for this.

What I would try is convert the API to a FSX MDL file with my ModelConverterX tool. I have had cases before where it fixed problems like this.

API Macro in FSX

Hi, Arno

Thanks for the tip.

I just downloaded the ModelConverterX and I'll see if I can "correct" the problem.

If now, I'll post the macro, maybe you can spot something.

I don't think it is the texture either. Weird problem...

Error - FSX is capricious

Hi, Arno

Tried ModelConverterX. At first I was fascinated by it. It did acquire my API macro that I had created with MDLtoBGL that creates macros from FS98 models.

The textures went in and ModelConverterX showed the model.

Then I exported, and it created an MDL, no errors anywhere.

Then I located it with ObPlacer 084 and it gave me errors, errors everywhere:

ERROR C2014: Failed to load model data in file...

and it continues with a few more error, all related to "model data".

Anyway, I then used ModelConverterX to import my model into gmax, and it seemed to work.

I exported the model from gmax and it worked too, no errors, texture and all, but all with sharp angles. I tried everything I knew to "Smooth", but it just wouldn't smooth it.

So, I am back at my original problem. I know I am insisting on an issue here, but FSX seems to have simply incredible quirks, and displaying an object with checkered transparent polygons is simply hilarious.:D

I am still looking for an out.

Thanks!

Fern

Hi Fern,

From ModelConverterX did you export as FS2004 or FSX MDL file? ObPlacer XML can not read the FSX MDL format, so that might explain the error you had. The smoothing should be kept when exporting from ModelConverterX directly to MDL, when going to 3DS it is lost indeed.

Gosh, FSX is hard...

Hi, Arno and all

I have a more fundamental problem, I think.

I can't even make a box created with gmax (FSX) appear in FSX.

I will ask the question elsewhere in the forum, and I'll comeback here to continue with this one. Thanks.
