• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 FSX MDL slows P3D

Did a quick search but couldn't find any other posts on this.

Has anyone else had an issue with FSX format aircraft reducing FPS in P3D? A user of my Sea Fury model contacted me to say he'd noticed it slowly dragged the frame rates down in P3D, from a locked 30 down to low teens. I tried it myself and found that it took about 5 minutes to go from 30 to ~12.
I initially suspected a dodgy gauge flooding the sim but after commenting them all out the problem remained. I then thought it may be some code for one of the animations in the MDLs themselves so my first step was to re-export the files as P3D 2.5 MDL. It seems that was the only step I needed as it now stays locked at 30 FPS.

Has anyone else noticed this or is it because of something in my modelling techniques that the P3D exporter resolves?

Interesting. This is the first I have heard of this. I'll have to test my models and see if they do this in FSX.

What version of FSX did you test in? FSX Steam Edition or FSX Accelleration?

I use FSX Acceleration, don't have Steam to test it with. I'm actually toying with going P3D only so it didn't seem worth the outlay for testing.
The odd thing is I haven't noticed it with the other FSX native models I've used in P3D...

I was only using P3D and found many bugs were getting through with planes that had adverse reactions in FSX but were totally fine in P3D. Scale of switches for instance. Anything with a MouseRect will have scaling/operability issues in FSX where in P3D they are fine. Another is interior textures. In P3D they are high realism. In FSX, they are bright and basic, rough, no shading. Its good to see what your work looks like in FSX now and then (if you are doing freeware and payware) so that you know what others will be looking at since most people use FSX.

Just a heads up, you cannot load FSX Accelleration on your computer if you already have Steam Edition. Load FSXA first, then FSXSE second. Otherwise, delete FSXSE, install FSXA, then have Steam reinstall FSXSE. This way you can run both versions of FSX. I say this because.... DoveTail are continually updating and enhancing and modernizing and improving the base sim code continuously. Just today they announced a new update which they have been testing for several weeks now. So if you are doing Payware, you may get both versions of FSX.

I also put my second FSX on a different drive from the other FSX to give them breathing room. I had some problems getting them on my rig. Some how, because of a icon that goes through Steam, I ended up with 3 or 4 installs of FSX, lol. What a mess that was. I had to relocate my Steam Apps and the icon tells Steam to reinstall FSX but to its old location. I found 3 different locations going on.... sigh.
