• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX FSX-Model causes CTD / AttachPoint-Tool Problems

Hey guys.
My name is Lars Roennig and I'm a member of Posky and QualityWings.
I'm currently doing my first FSX-model-conversion (which is the QualityWings 757) and it seems that FSX is a neverending nightmare to develop for :D

I'm stuck at two major problems.
1) The model always causes a CTD in FSX when I try to load it in the preview-screen. The sim freezes for a short while and then the famous "FSX has detected a problem" appears. When I initially load the default Cessna and THEN switch to the 757 it loads just fine w/o any issues. We already ironed out that the gauges aren't the problem. Any help would be highly appreciated!!

2) I managed to attach effects to the model without a problem. But for some strange reason, with every effect that I attach, it automatically seems to attach a landing-light effect to the same part. Here is an example:

Config in gmax:
Effect-attach.jpg

Effect in FSX (hard to see, it's NAV-Light + Landing-Light):

Thanks in advance guys!

Hey Lars,

Yes... FSX is a monster to make things for.

To check that its your effects, try unattaching them, or just not export with the entire model and check in FSX to make sure they are not causing the issue.

You might also ensure that you have the proper effects files in your FS database. They might be trying to load and are not there.

I cant see that the model itself would actually cause the crash. I would have to think its other elements, such as modules, 'maybe' effects, gauges, guage sounds (gauge sound dll files), etc... Not the actual mesh itself. At least I havent heard of that happening...

Make tripple sure all your textures are in the package also when booting up FSX. Having missing textures can cause odd issues with models..

Thanks for the reply Bill.
Yup I already unattached the effects. The landing-lights disappeared. They really only appear wherever an effect (no matter which one) is attached to a poly.

As for the CTD. When I load the FS9-'portover' with exactly the same gauges, modules & sounds it loads just fine. I too don't think the mesh causes the CTD but I'm kinda lost what the reason could be.

EDIT: It just came to my mind that I could try to merge the model into a new gmax-project. Maybe that makes a difference. Will try that tomorrow and let you guys know the outcome.

Roger that...

It is odd. Really sophisticated models can have so many possibilities. I hope you are able to find out where the problem is and get it working.

In case you didnt see my post on landing lights and FSX, you might check this out. It might help if it is indeed the attach tool and your landing lights.

Just to let you know...it seems as it was caused by (A:HYDRAULIC1 PRESSURE,psi) Variable. I replaced it with something else and the CTD disappeared.
Sorry to bump this old thread again but maybe someone else has similar issues and this may be a solution.

Thank you for the help nevertheless Bill!
