FSX problem with SP2

Hi all,

Over the years I've had to reinstall FSX many times as PCs came and went, but having acquired a shiny new 4-core machine with lots of oomph, I can't get FSX to install correctly (this is direct from the original DVDs to the default location).

FSX itself installs OK, as does SP1, but SP2 says "FSX SP2 requires the English version of FSX" and quits.

FS Insider offers a registry fix for this, but my registry entry is already correct:
http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/tips/Pages/FSXSP2-BogusErrorMessageonSetup.aspx

If anyone has encountered this error and can offer a solution, I'd be grateful.

Regards,

Iain.

Don't think I'd install to the default location. At least not with UAC on. That is an aside, not your problem. Quad core is also not the problem. Nor is Vista or W7. Don't know if that helps much.

I am now in the same boat, except SP1 for me. I reinstall, nothing. I delete and reload FSX 2 times, nothing. It boots up early (SP1 installer) saying 'SP1 is now installed!

I have also tried the Registry Repair by Flight1, I have tried the CD's 'repair' route, rebooting, booting up the SP1 from 'in' the FSX folder system. NOTHING WORKS!

heh... This is a sign.

My AeroFly FS CD's arrive on Tuesday.

You *did* install an english version of FSX, right?

Also, it might be worth tinkering with the locale settings of Windows itself. Maybe SP2's installer doesn't recognize "scottish" as a viable form of the english language. ;) :D

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, it is an English version ... and annoyingly it's the same disk I've installed and updated many times before (including on W7 machines), but this time it thinks it's not an English version! I have no idea what's different this time ...

I usually install to C:\FSX and tried that originally this time, but when I re-installed, I used the default location to (hopefully) eliminate that as the source of the problem. But it didn't ...

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks,

Iain.

I had a similar problem and posted my solution in the other thread (the one authored by lionheart). For me, any trace of FSX lingering in any folders had to be removed first before my FSX install would work properly. That said, I only installed up to FS SP1. There are three location for FSX files, check out that other thread for details if you think that might be the reason.

As an aside, I did not need to start FSX at any point in between parts (like after the initial disk and before SP1, for example).

LOL Bill, but he might have the Gaelic version, aye. It will install when efferyone iss ready, there's no hurry at aal, at aal. ;)
