• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX scenery files structure?

I remember from FS9 that you should not have a scenery folder without a texture folder if memory serves. OK this was true for 3D models and such. On the other hand, landclass scenery only had a scenery folder, and was kept outside 3D stuff (had its own folder with a scenery subfolder).

OK...now to FSX: Currently I have made scenery files with SBuilder (flattens and grass), Instant Scenery (MS models) and ADE (new ENGM airport aprons, gates and boundary fences. For a while I had no textures. So I kept all my files in a scenery folder only, and there was no problems in FSX. But now I have added a gmax model with a texture, so there is a new texture folder present. Can I keep all this stuff in my current folder structure with scenery and texture folders? As I see it, this is no problem. I checked the Cloud9 ENBR scenery, and it is the same structure there. I guess flattens with new grass textures is not really pure landclass?

I don't see any arguement against your setup - it is working fine for me. The memory leak issue in FS9 was only related to landclass files, not models.

Thx for chiming in. I remember now there was a memory leak in FS9, and that I fixed it by removing a double set of landclass. Regarding FSX I already got two airports in the same folders, and there is no trouble here. Both airports have small landclass enhancements, flattens and 3D models. It`s nice to be able to keep things tidy...I do this by naming files as discussed somewhere else in this forum.
