• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SDK Files

Hi guys, new here. This may be inappropriate, but I figure I will post anyway and see wether it flys or not. Does anyone know where I can find the FSX SDK DC3 files in Gmax format?(or at least .3ds so I can import.) I have 3d Studio Max but it is version 4.2 and the sdk 3dmax file will not import. can anyone help out with this or am I just being a guffus. Thanks

Thanks

Thanks Felix. Unfortunatly I can't get the MD87 file to cooperate. I keep getting a missing DLL error when I open the file. I have the FSX SDK 1A installed in the game pack folder and am using the FSX Gmax shortcut that I have copied to the desktop. It will let me open it and then give me a missing DLL error. When I try to export it as an .mdl it says there are some missing textures and then when I open FSX and try to load the aircraft FSX gives me the ol Fat-AL message (I hate that guy :D ) and shuts down. Is this a known issue?

I am new to the aircraft creation thingy, use Shade 8 in my real job and play around in Studio Max 4.2 and Gmax at home so the creation of the actual 3d model isn't the real problem its all the black box stuff between the creation an export that gets me.

I really wanted access to the interior DC3 model wanted to play with the idea of a cargo compartment with a jeep for unloading and possible an early Puff the Magic Dragon interior w miniguns crew and such. Thanks for the response though.

Having the default DC3 interior model wouldn't be much help for what you want, since it consists of only:

1) cockpit shell
2) port prop and engine nacelle (starboard side of port engine only)
3) top of port wing

:banghead:

Thanks

Thanks N4GIX. Oh well, would have been cool though. Guess I could build the DC-3/C-47 from the ground up  But.... no, I don't think so. Was mainly going to experiment w it. Did anyone else have a dll issue when loading the MD87 mentioned above? Just curious.

Hi,

I get unsupported object errors. I haven't tried exporting yet as I can't get that to work for FSX. :(

Best regards,
Robin.

In the export dialog of GMAX, set the options as shown in this image, and it will work. There are four warnings durings export, so some changes must have been done to the code since it left me, but they should look like

Burkhard, the only changes I made was to set up the animations properly using the SDK tools, and converting all materials to FSX Materials.

Other than that, it's essentially the same model you kindly provided!
