• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX SP2 Transparency Problem

It's the old seasonal trees thing again. My scenery has custom Gmax trees compiled with FS9 MakeMdl and with bgls tweaked. They work fine in FSX SP1 but show the transparency problem in SP2.

Has anyone solved this yet? Is a solution possible even? I see that Lennart posted a reply a year ago which showed seasonal trees but didn't give a link or details on how he made them.

I've stuck with SP1 and my scenery is fine for me, but if there's still no solution of this problem it would make sharing the scenery out of the question I would think.

Decode it somehow.

It is hard to be understood in translation English.
Decode it somehow.
And, there are many same topics in the past. ;)

Material Editor It clicks on New ,next FlightSimX choice
It is checked in the Bloom item Allow bloom.
It clicks on the Framebuffer Blend item SetDefaulttransparen.
Material A check is given to the Alpha Test item Z-Test.
Alpha Test Level is adjusted with about 50.
Alpha test Mode GreaterEqual is chosen.
Enhanced Parameters item It is checked in Z-Write.
Double A sided check is given.

Hi,

The real solution is to use a FSX object, with the FlightSimX material. But the downside of that is that you loose some of the tweaks that could be applied to FS2004 style objects (rotation, seasons).

In my impression SP2 solves some of the issues SP1 had, but it seems you are saying the reverse. I guess I should try to check this once more, it is getting confusing with all those versions :).

Absolutely. SP2 I think was a disaster. I made cruciform trees with alpha transparency and seasonal textures. I compiled them via FS9 MakeMdl, used MdlTweaker to remove shadow, normalise and add seasonal textures and added them into a library to get GUIDS. They worked perfectly and looked great in FSX SP1.

Users who put them into FSX SP2 suffered from the transparency problem and had to remove them and as they are an essential part of the scenery (it's a farm strip in the UK where I fly from IRL with packed trees all around) for them the scenery is spoiled.

Aces did us no favours with SP2 - who needs DX10 after all, it still doesn't work after all this time - it just made the mess that is FSX even worse and fools of us all. When did you ever come across a version of FS where it's almost impossible for people to a create proper add-ons even after the sim has been out this long. No wonder Phil Taylor decided to abandon ship along with all the rest.

The pros and cons of SP2 are maybe not something to discuss in this thread, but SP2 also has a lot of fixes. Better performance, FS2004 style materials without textures work properly again, etc. It had not occured to me that it introduced the transparency problem again (the RTM version also had it, I even thought SP1 still did).

I will see if I get the same effect with my own trees and report back.

Hi,

I doubled checked again, FS2004 style trees do indeed have those transparency problems in FSX SP2. I don't have SP1 installed here anymore, so I can not check the differences with that. Although I can't remember that they had fixed it really before the RTM and SP1 versions.

For the projects I am working on we have decided to go to the trees in the default FSX style, so without the seasons. It is a pity that we can't be as flexible with conditions in the FSX format as we could be in the FS2004 format, but for now we have to live with it. For the next version I am sure MS is aware that this feature is high on our (and also their) wishlist.

Yup, all of the trees here were created as I originally described. Only the ones in the distance are default.

As you can see they work perfectly in FSX SP1 (I deinstalled Acceleration/SP2 because it has too many issues and problems I think).

Sorry about reviving this thread, but any one got a clue on how to fix this transparency issue from FS2004 styles material. I also have seasonal textures that I want to be working into FSX.
