• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Steam & SDK

I heard that there is a work-around as Steam does not have permissions for the SDK to be included i the package.

I have FSX Gold so copied the SDK file from Disc 1 and Acceleration into a folder on pc, and installed as per the instructions on the SDK Gold section of the sticky (including one rather confusing post). Itseems from all the lovely graphgics and messages that SDK loaded, but I cant seem to be able (as it were) find it to open it .

Still getting the message that ADE cant find the shp2vec compiler. Do I need to have the sim running to compile? Its my first attempt so just trying to create a runway.

Is it just that Steam wont run the FSX SDK, or am I doing summat wrong as per usual? Have tried changing the paths but cant seem to find a way round it.

Help please.

Hello @MikeKing

Can you show a screenshot of ADE options (specifically this section- see image):

AIRPORT DESIGN EDITOR X v01.79.7475 Dev (Pro)_Options.png

Another option if you are unable to get it to point at the Gold SDK you might have to use the P3D SDK v1.4. You can get the p3D SDK 1.4 from the resource section on this site: https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/resources/prepar3d-v1-sdk.227/

Hello Doug, thanks for the info. I have found that the shp2vec folder has not installed at all and I cant get 'fsx_sdk_sp1a.exe' to run either using run as adminstrator or not. I have to transfer all the files from disc to a folder on the PC as they wont run straight from the Discs (!). I think I will take your advice and go for the PSD SDK.

Are there any quirks with installing that in FSXSE? I use 2 HDD and have all the FSXSE stuff on the D drive.

Many thanks
Mike

Hi...

The only quirk is that you may not have the TrafficTool within FSX: SE (Steam). I'm not sure you would have it if you got the FSX SDK to install properly.

To be clear, you need to install the P3D SDK v1.4 separate from FSX: SE. Do not combine the installation of the P3D SDK into the same folder as the FSX: SE. You should be able to install it onto any Drive though. You should be able to use ADE and any other Tool for that matter with no problems.

Hopefully, that has helped you.
