• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FS2004 Fuel Burn Problem

In recent flights I have noticed that engines 1 & 2 seem to burn more fuel than engines 3 & 4. It seems a bit odd as they all start off with equal amounts in the tanks and crossfeed doesn't seem to be the problem. How can I trace what's going wrong?

Do you have some code that would simulate some APU fuel usage from that side?

Fuel flows are the same for 1&2 and 3&4??

Otherwise I would try to do a controlled burn senario and see if the fuel is crossing from side to side, or there is something 'burning' or leaking more on the left side somewhere.

just spitballing here.. hope you can find it.

I'll test it tomorrow but I think the cause is that 3&4 are crossfeeding from the centre tank and 1&2 are not.

They are all identical. I think the problem lies with the centre tank crossfeed. I'll have to go on a flight to test everything!

I went on a flight test but unfortunately got a bird strike at v1 which knocked out both engines 1&2. So I returned to base and had a cup of tea!

Volo,

If those are exact, and your gauges all reflect correct and equal fuel flow; and your only discrepancy is tank levels after a flight...

It could possibly be:

Crossfeed
fuel dump gauge or FSX fuel dump feature


OR

everything is correct and FS is drinking from the higher tanks first. This is normal. The fix is to not use the main tanks in your aircraft.cfg, but use four non "main" tanks. Main tanks are always 1 & 2. You can use any tank combination from 3-21 if I remember right.... that 21 is probably wrong, it's in the SDK, but just set up two new tanks, then delete the mains, then make sure your crossfeed gauges and valves are all reflecting the new fuel layout.

Don't forget to position the new tanks correctly and match the quantities etc.
 
One of my next tasks is to re write all the tank gauges using Doug's gauge to refuel them all to be done from the refuelling hatch under the a/c. I did an entire flight today and there were no problems which indicates a wrong crossfeed setting.
