• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Funny Thing With Rudder Control

LOL...

...I tried out a little bit with my new top secret FDE - Tool boys :p

but now when I kick the rudder pedals that plane rolls in the same

direction. But rolling is for airlerons and so this goes wrong!

What goes wrong?

Greetings

Nothing goes wrong.

If you use rudder, an real-life airplane yaws as expected. But yaw means that it also gets into a sideslip: the airstream attacks the fuselage, wings, and tail surfaces at an angle and not frontal (sideslip angle BETA).

Roll Moment with Sideslip CL-beta is now active:

  • In any wing arrangement were the wings have positive dihedral (V-shape) the leading wing sees a greater angle of attack and therefore a higher lift as the other wing which induces a rolling movement in the direction of rudder deflection.

  • In sideslip the airstream also meets the the tail fin not frontal but a an angle of attack . In the VERTICAL axes this this causes a force that tries to turn back the aircraft (directional stability -"weathervane effect") .
At the same time there is a moment in the LONGTITUDIONAL axes, as normally the surface of the fin is much bigger on the top of the fuselage (above the centerline) .This as well induces a rolling movement in the direction of rudder deflection.

  • Similarily wing sweep and dihedral of the horizontal tail induce a rolling moment on defelction of rudder.

The coefficient for Roll Moment with Sideslip - CL-beta can be found in section ROLL in record 1101 of the air-file .

I´m surprised that you did not notice this effect in flying other simulator aircraft. What was the base aircraft for your modifications in the .air-file ?

Hello

No, it was not only that effect. The Aircraft did no jaw, it only rolled LOL.

Directly out of straight flight. But now its doing better.

If have still some trouble editing my airfile, because I cant simply edit

the 2d and 3d tables. When I use Airwrench it destroy my airfile and the

plane is only flying wild loops with 5 meter diameter. After five seconds my

virtual tespilot shots his breakfast all over inside my monitor and I have

to cancel that.

Now I make the changes in airwrench but only copy the hex info to AIRED.

This works fine, but I cannot change the tables inside that editor in the

graphical view. This neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds tiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmme.

Greetings
