• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Fuse Com[lete Now What ?

Hi All,

I now have a new fuse model, developed by max at ISDT for me. At the moment the fuse is a hollow shape all through, I need to start modelling the inside now and also the windows, is it best to use a boolean for the windows on my Dornier, And how do i get the shape to be ''un-hollow'' ? thanks.

Unhollowing the fuse is probably the easiest.

AFTER your outside shell is modelled with the windows and doors cut out, etc., then you clone the fuselage, flip normals, and extrude ever so slightly (to get "thickness")

Not to worry, Found it. Though my fuselage is still a hollow solid object...

I'm using GMAX, i think i've done it though, its the extruding i don't get, if its a mesh then how do you exrude, face extrude ?

You simply select which face you want to extrude, right click on it, and choose the option 'Extrude.' A small icon will appear when you hover above the part showing you it's ready to extrude, then you click and pull the object out from the original face.

This is all a LOT easier than it sounds. It's one of the simplest things you can do.... ;)

Ah right Kevin, Thanks for that, thats one more thing ticked off, next is windows, which i have to say, i'm rubbish at, ive just given it a go on the dornier model i all ended up buggered, And tips for boolean windscreen, ive got the side windows sorted, though not the front... Thanks

Booleans are the Miley Cyrus of Max.

They should be avoided whenever possible...

Seriously though, if an extrude is one of the easiest things to do, a Boolean is one of the hardest (for me, at least) to get right. I don't think I have ever had one come out perfect on the first try, and from the look of things, I think a lot of others feel that way as well. It's either that they tear up the geometry. or leave too many polys behind or some weird stuff beyond imagination, it's always guaranteed to be an adventure when a boolean pops up.

I swear, if I ever figure these things out, I'm doing a tutorial that explains them from start to finish.

Right ok, I have found it pretty tricky, it's left a few isolated polys and vertices that should be there, so what would you recommend is the best way to cut out a windscreen ?

Thanks Kevin
