• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can the editor be used to extend the range or distance the smoke can be seen? (Total novice here on this, just learning).

Hi,

Yes, should be possible. You are just editing the FX file with the editor. So if you know what to change you can.

Good, I'm in the right track. Thank you. Now does anyone know what that parameter might be?

Not an expert, but look at the controllers section in the Effects SDK. Talks about a distance controller type 3

Thanks Ron ... (I have to admit, the complexity of this is daunting, but my "respect" for the folks that design this stuff is very high. Amazing what we "take for granted" when we see a functioning windsock, beacon or smoke effect). Thank you, off to learn some more.

Another way that people sometimes use is to add more emitters I think, but I'm not a big expert on effect either.

I'm having fun on this learning curve. (And I do NOT see the top of it coming! :-) ... what I need to do is find a REALLY BASIC tutorial on this magical stuff and dig in and learn the basics. YouTube seems to have some interesting things. The first time I tried to use XML and put in a windsock, when I saw the code, it made no sense. Now it is like reading "Dick and Jane" books. So anything on a "first look" basis looks pretty complicated. But it is fun to "learn" something new, and seeing your new windsock blowing in the breeze, the right color pole, the right color sock, right where you want it ... now that's magic. And someday, at RTMM, there WILL BE Orange Smoke seen from a distance! :-)
