• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FS2004 Gear animation

I'm having a little problem with the front gear doors on the model. In Gmax everything animates great. The 2 doors are linked to the c_gear. Any ideas?

Well, if you link to c_gear, your doors will follow the rotation of the gear, which is as should be but isn't what one wants. (Don't know why it should work in gmax, it certainly shoudn't).

Try unlinking them, call them c_gear_door_01 and _02, and animate to work on their own so as to open before the gear drops free.

Parts heirarchy for FS9 gear animations:

Code:
...c_wheelwell // this acts as the "parent part"
......c_gear_01_mainstrut // this is the main gear strut
......c_gear_02_door_left // this is the port side door
......c_gear_03_door_right // this is the starboard side door
......c_gear_04_door_rear // this is the rear door (if the a/c has one!)

Or, rather than nose_gear_well use c_wheelwell as a (predefined) parent part because this offers you the added advantage of totally hiding the gear-assembly when retracted. Similarly, l_wheelwell and r_wheelwell.

Good catch! I don't often bother to hide the gear when retracted, but that's something to keep in mind. I've edited my post accordingly to prevent future confusion... :)
