• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Gear droop

Anyone know a working code for

a) wheel bogey droop on airliners after takeoff and

b) gear droop on light aircraft once off the ground.

I want to simulate the way some light aircraft gear 'drops' when off compression, once in the air.I suppose the same code could be used for both?

This would be for FSX.

Thanks

What you call gear droop is "normal" modelling.

Typically you will model your gear at full "uncompressed" position - In your keyframes this is your fully extended, no weight on gear position - keyframe 100. Remember, keyframw 0 is your gear fully retracted, keyframe 200 is your gear under maximum compression. Therefore there is no "special" code to simulate the completely extended (or what you call - gear droop" on GA aircraft. An airplane with fixed gear simply has no animation from keyframe 0-99

For the bogies, I've seen XML coding for that, but I'll have to search the forums for that.

Felix is on it Bazz,

What I have done in the past is make a regular retraction rate with say 4 points between 0 and 100. Then after its all animated, slide over two of the 'mid' arc points that are between 1 and 4 (0 and 100) and bring them over close to point 0 or point 4 and burn a model to check its behaviour.

If though, you want hydraulics that 'droop' after bringing a gear into place, or as like say a gear door after landing, then Jess has a code for that. He made one based on time that begins a settling movement on the inner gear doors of a P-51 Mustang. (I dont know how he did it).

Cheers,

Bill

Hi Guys,

The gear on this thing is fixed, no retraction. On the ground, the gear takes the weight. If you go over a bump or a sleeping pilot, the gear will compress upward.OK, but when the plane leaves the ground, the gear extends beyond normal compression at rest, to a completely uncompressed state.

So, does the 'standard' U/C animation tag allow for this then?

Thanks for the help mates.

Thanks Felix, much obliged for the link. I reckon the code can be used for the drooping fixed gear opportunity also.

Model on dudes.

NP. But, unless we're misunderstanding what you want to do - technically there is no "droop", on the landing gear. That is a matter of modelling the animations correctly.

Felix is entirely correct. If the gear animation is done properly, the gear will drop fully when off ground, settle to the normal "weight on wheels" position about half-way compressed, and "bottomed out" when hitting a bump! ;)

Thanks guys, I will experiment with the compression frames. I just thought there was a little trick to use here.

Hi
For fixed gear droop I normally do this :)
KF0 and KF100 gear at its fully drooped position,Kf150 gear position when aircraft standstill on the ground at max weight.kf200 position of gear under full compression
cheers
