• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Getting object type in SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_SIMOBJECT_DATA

SimConnect callback: Is there any chance to get the object type for a particular call in a SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_SIMOBJECT_DATA?

case SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_SIMOBJECT_DATA: {
SIMCONNECT_RECV_SIMOBJECT_DATA *pObjData =(SIMCONNECT_RECV_SIMOBJECT_DATA*) pData;
SIMCONNECT_OBJECT_ID objectId = pObjData->dwObjectID;
SIMCONNECT_DATA_REQUEST_ID requestId = pObjData->dwRequestID;
// here I need type

It is easy to get in an SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_EVENT_OBJECT_ADDREMOVE, but any chance in SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_SIMOBJECT_DATA?

case SIMCONNECT_RECV_ID_EVENT_OBJECT_ADDREMOVE: {
SIMCONNECT_RECV_EVENT_OBJECT_ADDREMOVE *evt = (SIMCONNECT_RECV_EVENT_OBJECT_ADDREMOVE*)pData;
SIMCONNECT_OBJECT_ID id = evt->dwData;
bool isAircraftOrHeli = (evt->eObjType == SIMCONNECT_SIMOBJECT_TYPE_AIRCRAFT || evt->eObjType == SIMCONNECT_SIMOBJECT_TYPE_HELICOPTER);

Goal: Distinguish between heli / fixed wing. Cannot use add event, because if i connect and the aircraft is already "there", I miss the information.

Will try it, did not see it - will report when checked. Thanks so far!

Yep, I am already using atcModel as a workaround to distinguish string based. Guess you mean the same variable.
Will use this approach until I find a way to access objectType directly in the same step.

Hi,

I confirm there is a variable called CATEGORY. This string is part of Aircraft Miscellaneous Data.

I just tried it yesterday and it works ok. I guess we are working on the same project :).

Patrick.
