• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Getting started with Blender and FSX

Hi, I'm interested in using Blender with FSX, any recommendation for which version of Blender (and BlenderFSX toolset) I should install? Is latest Blender recommended, or is an older version better?

Also is 32 or 64 bit versions required or I can use either?

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry,

Take Blender 2.75 or 2.74, these work fine for me. And the bit version that fits to your machine.

Welcome ;)

Hello,
I am in the process of learning blender and I wonder is there an easy way, as there is in FSDS, to split a part (fuselage) down the middle, mirroring and then accurately re-joining?
I'm on 2.75.
Thanks in advance
Rob

Hi Rob,

That depends. Do you have a seam, or loop on the middle? Then you just need to throw the bad half of the fuselage away, add a mirror modifier with clipping and after you're done, apply it. Something on this is explained in the second post of my tutorial: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/th...lage-with-some-nice-structural-detail.434661/
Makes sense to read through this tutorial to learn some tricks ;)

Anyway, if there's a 'seam' on the X=0 location:
- Delete all vertices of the 'bad' half of the fuselage
- Go in the Object dialog to the Modifier panel:

- Add a Mirror Modifier and select Clipping:

- Now you can edit the mesh until you're finished. Then, only then, hit Apply.

Is this helpful?

Cheers, Daan

Hello Daan,
Thank you very much for your help, that works a treat!
I found that some of the polys had flipped so I deleted all and used the "F" key to rebuild, I've got a lot to learn.
I'm up to my neck in tutorials and YouTube videos at the moment.
I've only been at it for about a week but there is no turning back now.
FSDS has had its day.

Thank you again
Rob

I can't image what you might produce, after getting your feet wet in Blender. Go for it Rob, you'll do great!
