There are indeed a number of variables which may play a role in the rendering of aerial imagery BGL(s) from MSFS / P3Dv2.x SDK Resample at different distances and Altitudes from the ground.
It appears that your initial concern with blurry rendering of IIUC all custom aerial imagery BGL(s) is largely resolved, and that LODs higher than the default 1.2 Meters / pixel are still under consideration for your project.
BTW: As you may recall the FSX / 3D pixel rendering load doubles with each stepped increase of LOD, as shown in the table from this post:

If your preference is to use very high resolution aerial imagery on the ground at the airport, to avoid the "delayed draping" phenomenon and other performance consequences, one may also need to consider use of the legacy FS2002 / FS8 "Ground Polygon" (aka "G-Poly") method.
FYI: I will be traveling for several days and will be unable to resume my intended tests on a FSX development system until after my return.
