• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Global Wildfires Open Source Project - Need Programming

Good to see it working -- glad you like it. :)

FS Active Fires only adds fires within a 20 kilometer radius of the user to increase performance. This threshold is not user adjustable because it's actually greater than the distance effects themselves appear and disappear at. The numbers of fires in the simulation will change depending on where your user aircraft is. The number of total fires per region changes depending on how many hotspots the MODIS instrument aboard the Aqua and Terra satellites detect.

Your latest version 0.1.4.1 works for me, too - tested in FSX.
I identified a fire in "FIRMS Web Fire Mapper", got the coordinates, put the aircraft to that area - and - the fires were there!
Tried several different places with positive results.
Thanks you very much indeed for your tenacity and patience to get your project running successfully!

Dieter

Glad it works! If you use the FIRMS Web Fire Mapper to choose where to fly in sim, you might want to set the time period to 24 hours (rather than the default of 48 hours), as FS Active Fires downloads the 24 hour data.

And you're welcome; hope you enjoy it. :)

I enjoy this software very much! :)
These fire animations breathes some more life into the simulation.

Hi,

I will just dicovered this project and I am very happy : as I am building for P3D v2 and FSX a new Canadair CL215 and this project is a gift for me.
After my C150-K TiBush and his Damage Mod, I will realise a thrue Canadair with possibilities of drop water on fires and trying to simulate as I can the real behaviour of this plane.

So with the possibility to create fires, I think that my project will be a good extension of FSActiveFires ... I will follow this development with interest ;)

Hello Didier,

i love your C150 Bush. Well done airframe. Lookin forward to your CL215. Saw em once @ LFML doing water tanking training. The app is great!!!

Does the simconnect portion require FSX Delux to be installed? I have FSX standard SP2 / Acceleration installed and the application works except I click connect and nothing happens.

Glad you find it interesting, Didier, and good luck with your project!

Darryl: No. For the SimConnect connection, FS Active Fires requires Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2 or Acceleration, Microsoft ESP, or Prepar3D.

This may be obvious, but is FSX running when you attempt connecting? You can only connect to the simulator while it's running.

If FSX is already running when you try connecting, please run FS Active Fires from the command line with the -log argument, reproduce the issue, then upload the full contents of the resulting log (located in the same directory as the FS Active Fires executable, created after program shutdown) to Pastebin and reply with a link to the paste.

I sent a test version with additional logging via PM -- can you test it?

Hi all,

The FireEffect.MDL has been updated (it's hosted on and downloaded from my web server). There was an issue where the rotation of the object that has the fire effect attached was 90 degrees off (facing sideways instead of directly up). The smoke should no longer move across the surface of the terrain. Be sure to click "Install Model" again to update the MDL on your end.

To add on to what Brandon said, all you need to do is click the Install Model button in FS Active Fires and the new model will be downloaded and installed. The current version of the software remains v0.1.5-beta.

version 0.1.5-beta tested in P3Dv2.3 - runs great.
This is a wonderful add-on for real-time experience.
I hope the scope, i.e. real-time effects/conditions expands.

V 0.1.5-Beta tested on W7 64 bits and P3Dv2.4 => OK !

I will try to stop my fires with the A-26 Always of Milton Shupe :stirthepo
