• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi good folks, I recently heard about GlobalMapper(on YouTube) and was wondering if there are any tutorials out there about using it for FSX scenery development. I would like to know a bit more about this program. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Sure. Without now advertise for "my" tutorial, I did a little tutorial about creating/converting a raster data file to mesh here.

Good tutorial. Global mapper is used to créate photoreal files too. and to manage any Kind of vector data. there are free tools like Quantum Gis. I use this specifically for manipulating osm map and his vector data and to work with scenproc. Global mapper for mesh and photoreal. it is a hard matter but learning the three or four steps for the process could be enough as Gis matter is a very hard business. apply reprojection "geographic (Lat long) datum wgs84 etc. The photoreal creation is Little more complicated.dont know if exist some tutorial about this.

Oh that sounds interesting. Do you mean photoreal creation in a GIS software (qGIS, ArcGIS,..) or in GlobalMapper? If it is in GIS I may take another look :)

Gis is all:D any tool that work with geogrphic information. I only have worked with photoreal in GlobalMapper but I guess Quantum gis could do the work too as it can work with raster format and you can have acces to photoreal sources from there though I have'nt investigated too much. In my opinión Global mapper is a Little more user friendly problably.
You will need an image editor as always we have to edit the photoreal adding wáter mask and such. and FWTools to get the data of the Tif files. and add them afterwards. though Fwtools right now is out of service because it has been updated to another tool according I have read somewhere.
The really difficult business here is to get a free and good photoreal source files.

I know that GIS software does work with raster data. I try to get an insight and do some tutorial then.
