• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

globe in fsds

I would like to design a statue that sits in front of our local airport it is that of the globe ...it is not a solid figure rather a lattice artform made of steel. I have tried to use various methods in fsds to achieve this but always I come up with bad results. Is there a way to creat a circle that is not a solid in fsds?

Hi
Do you have fsds2.# if so there was a line render function.
Basically you made a sphere then hit F2 then select solid, lines or dots.Attached is 2 different ver I did in fsds2.I have no idea what would happen if you exported them via fsds3 but they display fine in fsds3

Cheers

Check the FS2004 SDK documents for a "LINE" material, which, if memory serves me right, does the same thing.

Yes, that material name prefix might work (or was it in FS2002 :)).

Or else make them as very thin 3D objects. For example 3 or 4 sided tubes.

THIN TUBES!!! That should make a true Luddite happy!

or cheat....

make the globe in gmax. convert to editable poly. select all edges, then create shape from selected edges.

convert to editable poly.

click to "display mesh" and set desired thickness.

Convert to e-poly.

export to Quake, convert to dxf and import to fsds....

go into convulsions and decide to export the globe from gmax!

got it done thanks to all

I took advice and use the globe as a patern made it transparent and followed the lines with thin tubes and wow it was easier than I thought it would be. Thanks all. attachment show how it turned out

Now for the next task, create a wire-frame globe including the shape of the continents... :duck:
