• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Gmax and complex apron

I've created the apron using my Gmax but don't know how to texture it properly.

I have the textures sized 2048x2048 but when I tried to uvw it like average building I stopped with very poor result -
how can I texture this apron with texture by using it several times?

I don't quite understand the problem but I think you must put the UVW coordinates all the same and then use the unwrap...

If you are wanting to "Tile" your texture, use a much smaller bitmap for "concrete" for example, then scale your UVW Map much, much larger than the bitmap.

The smaller bitmap will then "tile" (repeat itself) as often as needed. The problem is that all of the "seams" will be running in the same direction, and that may not be the effect you wish.

In that case, add edges where needed to create separate polygons that you can individually UVW Map and then rotate as needed to get the "seams" to run in the direction you want...

Wow, that's it. So the only way to create lots of small polys and texture them step by step? You'e saying about the adding edges, but how can I do that? is there a way to do it on a created poly? Like mine, because what you see now is awfull

Nothing helps((( I use the texture with alpha channel and it looks really bad

You're on the right track. You need to use layering to make the transparencies work for you. If you had something underneath, the transparency would reveal it.

Re: the edges, he meant basically dividing the polygon into smaller polygons. Use the slice tool, then you'll have another polygon where you can re-tile at a different angle or in another texture, say if your apron goes from asphalt to concrete, or changes direction.

Ok, thx for an advice!

I tried to unwrap every polygon but it led to unwrapping the whole model. Have I done anything wrong?

That's my poly
and my texture

You cannot "unwrap" all of them at one time. Instead, select ONE of the polygons, add a UVW Map modifier, adjust the size to be square, then add a UVW Unwrap modifier...

Open the UVW Editor, then select all vertices and Move/Scale/Rotate as desired to achive the size and orientation of the texture's seams...

When satisfied with that one, add a Mesh Select modifier, select the next polygon, and repeat the above steps...

When done, you should have every bit of apron nicely textured!
