• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMAX Cars

Hello everyone,

I have been delaying my recent scenery because I cannot seem to make low poly 3d cars correctly. Does anyone know where I can get some free low poly cars, preferably with the GMAX source files and textures? I was thinking of making animations with them, and if anyone would like to contribute some it would be great! All of my projects are freeware and will never cost a dime, if anyone was wondering.

Thanks for the help.

Ryan

Edit: I have looked on google for low poly car tutorials and have not yet found anything useful. Thanks.

had the same problem too..;)

not good at it still..but a quick and rough way is this:

you need to have a car's photo from the side first

then make a plane to the same dimensions as your image, and assign the car's photo on it. then, in perspective pres T to go get aligned on the top view. Start tracing the outline of the car using the line tool, using as little vertices as possible. when done apply an extrude modifier (tick on the cap start and cap end) to the actual width of the car. This should give you the rough geometry of the car, which you now have to texture...it's very basic but so far it's worked fine for me to model these with 200-300 polys only:

Adding animation can only be up to 1 minute without side programs....
There is a method for asm tweaking to add more frames....
But when I finally got it to work on this bus i made. The animation
was shacky and skipped some lines too. Was a nightmare....

Traffic is not easy!

DG:eek:

I wouldn't even bother with photoreal textures. If the car is meant to be low poly, so can be the textures.
It can even save a bit more time than making photos ready for FS use.

In terms of modeling, why don't you just start out with a heavily segmented box for the body and work it from there?
Then add four low poly cylinders and voilà: A car!

OR:

You browse over to Flightsim or AVsim and look for an EZ-Scenery library with cars and place them via ADE.

Does FS9 have default car objects?
If so, that could be helpful
If not, well, I can do it and send the finished poly to you, and all you'll need to do is texture it.
