• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Gmax compiling error (what else...?)

Hi folks,

I just checked out this forum and was struck by its friendly tone even to "dumb" questions.
Since these are my specialty, I felt comfortable to register here :D

Anyway - I have a problem compiling in gmax and the message I get is this: (see attached screenshot)
I have seen lots of threads here on compilation errors, but I couldn't find one with my error message so I hoped you let me get away with a new post :o
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards,
Norm

Hi,

Is it a very complex model you are trying to export? Normally this kind of error is caused by a part with too many triangles with a single material. In that case you hit some limits of the MDL format.

Hi Arno,

Thanks for your reply, yes the model is on the complex side, but still less than 60,000 polys. I have successfully compiled models with over 80,000 polys.
And when the model is too big, the error log actually says that. But the error message I get here says something about a macro.

Thing is - I have no clue, someone suggested I may have a problem with some of the textures...

Verschnitzelgebraten und pflunzgeknoedelt...!!!:censored::banghead:

Kind regards,
Norm

The error is in the .azm (intermediate of .asm compilation) about something being not equal to 65535...

My suggestion would be to "divide and locate" the problem by simply selecting 1/2 of your parts for a trial export...

If that is successful, the problem is likely in the other 1/2 of the parts...

Keep dividing the problem into small chunks until you zero in on the problem(s)...

Hi n4gix

Thanks for the tip, I tried this one out and found something really strange - none of the parts, even when compiled on their own, will compile.
Even single parts give me the same error message.
And, to make things even more confusing - some of the models I could compile in the past, will not compile now, while others of my older models will compile without problems.:banghead:
I also tried re-installing gmax in case it's a software problem.

Kind regards,
Norm

Okay, then appears that something in the basic 'root' of the source file is FUBARed.

Try Merging one part at a time into a completely New Scene, and export after each Merge operation...

Hi n4gix,

that sounds like a good suggestion. I haven't thought of it in this context, but this technique has saved my hide several times before...
I'll try that and let you know...:)

Kind regards,
Norm
