• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax export error

Hello folks,

I've installed FSX GmaxGamePack and run it from FSX_Gmax. FS Tools top menu has been displayed, but I've got an error when trying to export. The error was related to core.dll. Is there any solution for this problem?

FYI, I'm using Windows 7 x64

Thank you for advance

Hi again,

Sorry for double post. Here's what I did:

- Clean install FSX SDK, SDK SP1a, SP2 and GMax
- Changed the windows 7 region setting (decimal problem)
- Copy the SDK FSX_GmaxGamePack to Gmax/gamepack folder
- Run the FSX_GMax use direct3D
- Make simple object and add friendly name box, no problem so far
- Export to MDL, use FSX material, click OK
- Export option, checked flag duplicate, export FS10, process textures, use .BMP extension, use DDS files and click OK

Here it goes, same error (core.dll). I've been searching for this error, but seems only few have a problem like me and there's no solution.

Please help

Nanda

Can you give the exact error message?

It might be that you have to make sure the latest version of DirectX 9 is installed, but the error message will tell if it is a DirectX issue or not.

Did you set your computer to the US settings ("." for decimal)?
Not sure if this is still relevant with the FSX Gamepack but...

Thank you for reply Arno. I'm using directX 11 version. This is the error:

Calypso, yes I'm using "." for decimal. I have no problem running ModelConverterX which required decimal change to dot.

Thanks for advance

Hi,

Oh, I thought you got an error from the gamepack, but it seems like your whole GMax is crashing.

Does it matter if you try to export a symbol object (box) or a more complex one?

I don't remember seeing this kind of crashes before, usually people get errors from the gamepack itself.

Hi Arno,

There's no different. I also tried to export the sample object "oil_rig_sample" but it crashed too. I really don't have idea what cause this problem :(

Did you try to reinstall GMax already? After that you would have to copy the gamepack over from the SDK again.

dx11 is backwards compatible....but you may need a dll from dx9....installing dx9 doesnt stop apps from using whatever version dx they are coded to use.

this has occured before....and it is fixed by making sure that early dll that are required are installed......installing dx9 wont remove the ability of those very few games that are coded to make use of the small extras that dx11 can do,from using it....fs not using dx11, its dx9....with 10 being a mess in fsx..

maybe this dll is corrupt....google dll check...jim

Yes, I did that Arno, but still it crashed. Any other idea perhaps?

I'll try to use directX 9, Jim. Back soon with the result

and if its not dx dll....then it will be a gmax dll........dll stands for distributed link library, and gives rise to the commonly known problem........dll hell...

but you have the module number....you can view a list of all your installed dll,
if its missing...you need it....if its not its corrupt.....if its a gmax included dll.
download a fresh gmax....if its a microsoft dll.....microsoft....or do what i do ,take a nice bottle of whisky to my workshop,,,and talk to my motorcycle.
it works for me...good luck hunting the elusive dll beast....jim.

ps you say only you,and theres no solution.....but corrupt, or missing dll is extremely common...thats why a title has been invented for it...dll hell...your not alone
there are millions.......all using microsoft operating systems....jim

Yes.. download the 9.0c redistributable .. there are likely to be some core files that you need.

more

and while ime not doing anything usefull, here is my garbled explaination of direct x,,,,,

direct x is an api that in very loose terms, allows a game which the devs, have coded all the fab new dx11 goodies,,ie slightly smokier smoke..distant shimmer that is ever so slightly more shimmier...and amazing dust effects, that you wont notice while playing, but that somebody watching you play, might just about notice....

it allows a dx11 compliant card to show ...using the dx11 api...dx11 content coded into the game....fsx.acc is dx9....dx10 mode can be implemented in preview,if you have dx10 compliant card, its buggy ...dx11 should be backward compatible,,,but the reason why every game invariably runs a dx check, and then updates the dx api is...similar to why some applications need to be run in xp mode...backwards compatibility doesnt happen...

from this day onwards all software i decree shall be written in assembler..
and supplied on hundreds of floppy disks, and include a compiler to suit...jim...

..ps ive just noticed your using 64 bit os....make sure all is installed in programs x86...this is for 32 bit apps, which they all are.....64 bit os switches to 32 bit emulation mode and runs slower, but you get to use more ram....

the distinction (in terms of backward compatibility of DX11) is that some of the DX9 core files seem to be required to make 3D geometry with Gmax.

I presume (have no idea really) that his relates to making an intermediate X file that we never see, for X2Mdl.

Whatever the case, the exported seems to be unhappy without them ... from memory I encountered this when installing into 64bit Vista also. (solved now, and until my current project is finished and I update the machine to Win7, that is my current platform)

Thanks for help everyone, problem solved!! :D

Jim and Hcornea was absolutely right, GMax needs one or more dll things from dx 9 which dx11 doesn't have, "the hell dll", LOL.

I'm really happy, you guys were amazing, thanks everyone!!

Greetings from Indonesia

hooray

glad you fixed it.....most no all of my gmax probs have been solved by people on this site....and reading all the posts,,going back in the mists of time, usually supplies some help..jim

Needless to say I'm having a similar problem, I wouldn't like to open a similar new thread!

When I try to export a simple object (2 wheels across a cylinder) I always get this epic-failure dialog here, followed by countless smaller failure dialogs.

I'm a newbie to GMAX but what is wrong with this design?
I use DX11 but I don't think switching back to DX9 is a good idea.

Here's a pic of my wheels

You aren't "using" DX11*. The application (program) you are running will use whichever version of DXn it was written to use. Both Max7/8/9/2008 and GMax v1.2 were written to use DX9c, so you must have the runtimes for that version installed.

All of what was shown in your screenshot are "WARNING" messages, not "ERROR" messages.

"Degenerate Polys" is identical to the FS9 version's "Co-Located Vertices" warning message. It simply means that you have two or more vertex points that are co-located. Selecting them and Welding them will usually solve that issue.

*NOTE: This point is without a doubt the most misunderstood issue. What many don't realize is that DXn requires three independent components:

1. video card support
2. operating system support
3. application specific support

Just because I might slap a DX11 compatible video card in my computer does not automatically mean that anything currently installed will use DX11.
