• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

GMax ground floating?

Hello!

I'm noticing something weird in my scenery. I made the GMax ground polygon, edited the asm and compiled the BGL. The airport altitude in AFCAD is set to 749 meters and I created a flatten polygon in SBuilder at the same altitude.
When I set the time to dusk/night/dawn, it looks like the ground polygon is floating a few centimeters above the ground.

Here is two pictures describing the problem. The first one was taken at the daytime and the problem is not visible. The second one was at night and you can see a little line above the ground that is my ground polygon.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Fergo

Thanks for the replies :)

What are the dimensions in meters of your ground polygon/polygons?

About 1100x1100 (meters). FS2004 have some limitations like FSX regarding large polygons?

Do you created also a surface?

Surface? I don't know. I only created a Flatten in SBuilder and the polygons in GMax, nothing else.

Looks like the AFCAD lights are just showing through at the very end.

But, if it is floating, try dividing up the polygon in to smaller polygons. Not just slicing, make them each an individual part.

I had a one piece polygon larger than yours in FSX and it seemed to float at one end yet flicker with the ground at another. Fixed that by dividing it up in to smaller polygons (about 300x300M in size).

Ah, FS2004. I should have recognized it from the screenshot, but did not.

I am unsure as to whether or not there is any limitation re: ground poly size in FS2004, as I do not design in FS2004.

Have you tried disabling all of the runway lights? (use AFCAD) Then see if the effect is still there. You can at least narrow it down that way.

I'll try to remove the lights from the AFCAD and also break the polygons into smaller pieces.
Thank you both for the answers.

Fergo
