• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground flood light 3D ?

That was a good tip regarding the controller file, Georg. So for one point of light which should be visible dusk, night and dawn both for starting at and for flying into the airport one needs

1 effect for night
1 effect for dusk / dawn
1 effect controller for night
1 effect controller for dusk / dawn

Pretty workload, but the result is very nice indeed.

Cheers,
Martin

I think, you can reduce to

1 controller for night
1 controller for dusk/dawn
1 effect file

you call the same effect file with both controllers.

Georg,

After having tested that intensinvely I think the right approach is to call the effect with two controller files (and don't attach the effect directly at all)

  • One calling the effect at night
  • One calling the effect at dusk / dawn

That way I always see the lights on at the right time, no matter if I am flying in or starting at the airport, and I don't see that the effects add to each other in terms of intensity.

Reading your post again, I realize that now :)

I understood you wrong and thought your advise was to place two controller and one effect. Foreign languages can be tricky....

Well, now I learned the hard way which I accept happily since it had some other positive side effects.

Anything you can tell me to my other open question here in the effects forum?

Cheers and happy Easter,
Martin
