• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Ground Polygon appears broken

Hello Arno,

I'm sorry to bother again.
First of all, thank you for this great tool you provided us.

I seem to have a problem with ground polygons though.
My ground polygon appears broken in triangles or missing parts of it when exported as a layer in MCX.

I usually use a 4096x4096 rectangle plane with alpha as a ground poly and I place it on the layer number 32 (on top of everything).

Do you know what could have gone wrong?

I don't have any problems exporting runway polygons, taxiway polygons, aprons etc.
Only the ground polygon creates this problem.

I'll attach a screenshot as soon as I return to my PC.

Would like to hear your opinion and most of all thanks again for the precious tool you created.

Regards,

Peter

No...unfortunately it didn't work.
The ground poly is still shattered to pieces.

Its does not flicker, it appears broken to triangles.

I attached two screens of how it looks...hope you can help me solve this issue. :)

This is often a problem if the ground is not flat. Are you sure you have flatten polygon in these areas?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the ground polygon is placed on a flattened area.

I tried flattening 4 x times the size of the airport and still, the ground polygon is broken to pieces or missing parts.

So, it cannot be a flattening issue!

Do you have the same issue when making a ground polygon layer?

Hi Petro, if you have made sure that your poly is broken down every 100m or so, the most likely reason is a modelling problem. I d suggest that you check that your vertices all flat on that big polygon and that you have no breaks in it by overlapping vertices. Once you make sure of this, try a quick render in MAX, that'll show you if you have big breaks in the poly.

Hello Emilie,

thank you very much for your advice.
I have not broken down my polygon, nor am I sure how to do this.

I will show my super-simple ground polygon in the screenshot.
Used GMAX in order to convert to MDL.

I just used Rectangle + Poly Select (or just a plane object).

Hi,

The breaking into 100m chunks is done in the ModelConverterX Ground Polygon Wizard.

Nevermind guys,

I reverted back to v1.30 of MCX and was able to export the polygon to fsx without any issues!
I had been using v1.40 which seemed to have some issues with the ground polygons.

:)

Hi,

Could you send me your file for testing? Version 1.4 is supposed to work as well.
