• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Ground Polygon Wizard available

Hi,

The FS2002 style code that is used by ground polygons does not have the rain effect option.

I have been experimenting with using FSX MDL files, but when I used those the buildings around my ground polygons could no longer cast shadows on them (the user plane still did). Maybe I can offer it as an option to use FSX MDL files, so that users can choose.

Alrighty no biggy. I though it was actually FSX MDL file exported by it, not fs2002 gamepack. I'll try and do what our friend posted at the gmax forum regarding having just a layer from your runway in fsx gamepack for the effects.

Hi,

I think I will add FSX style as an option in the future, just because of the shadow issue people need to have a choice. Then they can choose what has priority for their project.

And maybe I can solve the shadow issue later.

With the quickness that your program make the task, there could even be a double export, that developer could make available both and the customer selects his preferred by a batch file of some sort.

Hi Arno,

I am using the FSX gamepack of Gmax to create my ground polys. I keep running the MDL through gpoly periodically to check the progress. I had the base textures down no problem, and have lofted some lines for runway edge border, using texture "line_white" which worked fine. Now when I add a second lofted line texture for the runway dash, the second texture "dashline_white" I just added appears in the layers and visibility, but "line_white" doesn't appear anymore. If I go through and compile anyway, all lofted lines are now using the dashline_white texture.

any ideas??

Thanks,

Dustin

Hi,

I am not sure if I understand your correctly. But I would first load the MDL into ModelConverterX and check if you then see all the textures. Just loading the MDL should give you a good idea of what GMax exported. When that is correct you can use the Ground Polygon Wizard to tweak the polygons.

I have heard of problems before that when you add too many lines to a scenery they will not export correctly from GMax anymore. Maybe that is similar to what you are seeing now.
