• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

FSX Ground Polygon Wizard problem.

Hi Arno!
Thanks for the great tool!
But i have some problems.
I'm doing a small regional airports and use Ground Polygon Wizard in your MCX. When compiling i exhibiting the order of layers. But in the FSX i see flickering polygons. I've tried various settings of Ground Polygon Wizard. Sometimes the flicker disappears, but each time you compile again and use the same parameters flicker again appears. I tried to find a pattern, but unfortunately did not find. Tried to use v1.3 and earlier dev.realese, but the result is the same. I think that the problem is not in MCX. Can you tell me what can it be?

Hi,

Do you have a flatten for the area as well?

And which layers did you use for your polygons?

Sure, i'm have a flattern.
Layers for polygon:
1. HD Terrain
4. Runway, taxiway (the same material, non-overlapping polygons)
5. Detail 1
6. taxiway line, rw marks
7. Details 2

I think this same problem:
http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427372

If i compile with "Autogen Exclusions", the polygon flicker. Without it, everything is OK.
If i compile a Runway and taxiway layer with number 2 or 3, and without the "Autogen Exclusions" that polygons is flicker.

The prevent autogen exclusion tweak indeed gives flickering shadows, I haven't seen other polygon flickers with it in my projects. But I don't know a fix for that yet, I hope to do some more testing soon.

Not too sure what use this might be but if you use ADE or AFX to create an exclusion in the AFCAD file then your GPs will not need to have autogen exclusion.

The autogen exclusion tweak *prevents* the GP objects from excluding autogen (which they normally will do). Thus you would have to place library objects to replace the autogen buildings and trees that are already excluded.

Hope this helps,

Yes, sorry I misread. The reason for the flickering in my mind is that the autogen is in sense "attached" to the ground and will try to bring the ground level up above the GP, you may want to increase the size of the flattern to cover the area of autogen, if this doesn't solve the problem then yes the only suggestion would be to exclude general and add library objects to generate GP level autogen.
Another idea would be to use a higher flattern altitude say just a few meters or so.

Hi Arno.
I come back again with this problem. :)
I experimented a bit and that's what happened.
The structure of ground-based polygons (see screenshot)

cze8.jpg

1. HD terrain made by polygons.
2. Runway, taxiway , apron
3. Detail 1
4. taxiway line, rw marks
5. Details 2

When i compiling the scenery via Ground Ppoligon Wizard and with option "Autogen Exclusions" the layers 2 , 3, 4 and 5 are beginning to flicker, but the layer 1 is normally. If the option "Autogen Exclusions" removed , then layers does not flicker .
If I remove layer 1 and turn on the option "Autogen Exclusions" , then there is no flickering polygons .
The problem in this layer ? What could it affect so ? Are there any ways to fix it?
Thanks in advance !

Hi,

Interesting findings. I'm not sure what the issue is. Might be because your layer 1 has bigger polygons. Maybe with the curve of the earth that has an influence.

While I was trying to find and solve the problem using ssasm code, the solution was very simple :)
I just changed layers number and they stopped flickering
