• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Guid Issues and Batch Transparency Quesdtion

2 Questions:

Question 1) In Library Creator after using MCX to save the library file (MDL), I keep getting this error conflicting with only certain trees when converting an FS 2004 DXT1 tree pack to FSX in MCX.

Parsing document: library_creator_xml_temp_compile.xml

INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: #C2455: Duplicate guid detected when adding model Tree3 from file D:\FSX_DEV\____AfterMCX\Tree3.MDL with guid: {8ec54978-85f5-4975-81b5-980a935bcb2c}. Original model Tree1 was in file D:\FSX_DEV\____AfterMCX\Tree1.MDL.

--------------NOTE that I am changing the GUID individually in MCX for each file before exporting. The weird thing is this procedure seems to work for some files but it keeps telling me GUID conflicts even after I set a custom name and GUID. I don't get that.

Question 2) Is there a BATCH method of changing the alpha transparency settings for DXT1 BMP's, I have to convert over 150 files and this is very tedious, especially since I keep having issue # 1 randomly with certain files. I need to set the 5 common settings for trees automatically - Alpha Test Function, Alpha Test Level, Z-Test Alpha, Assume Vertical Normal, and Z-Write Alpha. It would be great if there was a batch method to set those instead of doing it individually to hundreds of files...

Anyone have suggestions for problem # 1?
(I can live with issue # 2, but # 1 is a pain)

Thanks,
Kevin

Well I sort of figured it out, the GUID's aren't being created completely randomly in MCX, or Library Creator sometimes has a "stale memory" of the GUID.

Is there some reason that MCX creates the same GUID more than once and that you have to sometimes hit the CREATE NEW GUID button multiple times?

Is this by design or a bug?

Hi,

Pressing the new guid button always creates a new guid.

But when you overwrite an existing mdl file by default the guid of the old mdl object will be used. You can disable this in the options. Could that explain your behaviour?

There is a batch wizard to process multiple objects at once. If you makea material template for the material settings you want, you can quickly apply it to all objects.

Hey Arno,

Thank you very much, and yes I think that is what was happening and probably explains it...

Also, thank you for all the tools...
I can't imagine how long this would take without all these tools, there is enough gotchas as it is :)

Yah I saw the batch wizard, didn't know how to make a material template, but I'll give it a shot.

Thanks!

In the material editor you will find a button at the top right corner. That opens the Material Template Editor where you can make your own templates.
