• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hard Decks

Is it at all possible to make Decks landable on either AI,Static or Flyable ships within FSX and FS9,A few of us are halfway through building an HMS Illustrious and HMS Ocean and wanted to land on them.Any help or advice always appreciated.

If your using GMAX... with FS2004 SDK(FSX?)

1 - copy your model

2 - Convert to mesh and erase all polys but the deck or area needed for landing. Could also just make a simple plane for your "landing area". Once your done it will be invisible so don't worry about textures.

3 - use the attachpoint tool script and add a hardened surface to said object. I think it has to be concrete?

4 - export and test

FSDS or FSX don't know.

P.S. Can ModelConverter add hardened surfaces? Upcoming Gpoly?

t

ModelconverterX can not.
In FSX use Gmax to make a simple square or box with hardened surface. You can then use MCX to add this surface as an attached object to your vessel.
How to make a hardened surface with Gmax is explained by Maximil in the Wiki section .

I can't see "Hardened surface", do you mean "Platform"?

That's the badger, when you tick it a drop down list appears that lets you choose what the platform is made of. As far as I know this platform material just affects what visual effect you get when things drive over it, I tend to use steel planks for ship's decks.

Thanks Skippy.

Can I apply it to the actual deck? Can I remove it later?

Good point, anything you apply the effect to becomes invisible! You can either use a copy of the deck or just use a flat plane.
I found using a copy of the deck caused problems when I was making Ark Royal but that had a lot of cut outs for the jet blast deflectors etc. which I think caused it.
