• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have been using flight sims for a long time and am just now getting into the aircraft creation hobby. I am currently modelling my first aircraft and have some questions that i haven't been able to find. First thing is textures. i know how to modify textures on my default aircraft but i dont know what im supposed to do to make new textures. i mean how do you make the shape/templates or whatever they're called to actually put the textures on? please excuse my lack of knowledge but i am very serious about this hobby and will have many more questions in the future. thank you.

First you create the mesh object(s) in Max, GMax or FSDS.

After you've created a part, then you create a UVW Map, either screenshot or export the image from the UVW Editor, then use that as the base layer of your bitmap(s).

Then it's a matter of painting the layers of the bitmap(s).

Your questions simply are too broad for a forum reply. There's tons of information available, but you need to begin with the modeling part first.

Don't race ahead of your learning... :D

I've got the basic modelling stuff figured out and i've made my first complete model minus the prop. It's a cessna bird dog for what its worth. i still need to do the ailerons elevators rudder and wheels. but i think ill be ok on that part. i'm not trying to make anything perfect i just want this one to be the one i figure everything out on. a working aircraft is all i want. thanks for the reply. ill try to what you said might make more questions though. we'll see:)
