• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

(Help!!) Its a long shot.

Well, I've been working by myself on this project of mine for the past couple years now, i have alot of people looking forward to it problem is i cant finish it due to lack of skill. Ive modeled the terminal and a few extra buildings but i have no clue when it comes to texturing and making ground polys.

My question is, would anyone be willing to help that had the knowledge to make ground polys and texture buildings? I of course would learn along the way. This is supposed to be a small payware release but like i said Ive stalled with the lack of skill.

I kinda have a one man scenery team so if this goes somewhere there's a future for other sceneries if anyone is interested.

Comment or PM me if interested.
I could really use the help

Thanks
-Dan

Hi Dan.

I suggest you show us what you have so far...
Modelling a terminal without texturing it isn't very far into a project, and you've got a lot of work left.
If you'd like to recruit people for a pay-ware project then I think you should advertise it as so, what you seem to be asking is for someone to do a lot of the work and tutor you at the same time.:o

If you wish to lean about how to model and make sceneries, then this forum and wiki is the place. Everything you need to know is buried in here; and that's how many of us have learnt.

My gut feeling is that I wouldn't like to work on a release where the main guy is a bit of a fifth wheel, when I could be collaborating with people who have at least the minimum required to make a good scenery package.

I'd suggest you study and practise, and get to a point where you can contribute as part of a team.

Of course people could be very willing to help. I'm happy to try to answer any questions you have about making sceneries etc. to the best of my abilities, on this forum.

kind regards,
Shaun.

Perfect reply Shaun.

Dan, just knock the door to see what I can help you with.

Many people here are in the same boat, try to learn, and above all it's a lot of work, don't wait someone make the work for you.

Pat on the back as to who can guess the airport, featured in a TV show,
:P

Well again its not far just alot of models, i understand its a long ways off from finishing but its a monkey on my back that i wanna get off and move onto the next project. I also understand i cant wait around for someone to do the work for me its the fact that its a one man project and im willing to learn and be there every step of the way, Tutorials on FSdev and youtubing how to use 3ds can only go so far in my view. Im just looking for alittle help to learn and to finish this project.

-Dan

Move on to the next project already? Better get started on this one first!:)

That looks really good though, keep at it!

Pretty cool those buildings, look for the textures you need, unwrapping, first choose the faces you want to texturize, and edit.
But you need to master this matter to be a good developer. yes sometimes is boring even.

Yea, some parts unwrap, some map... Not bad at all, but I wouldn't hesitate to add some windows polys.. +/- 200 polys doesnt harm at all.

Just to give a feel of depth of the model, make lil deepenings in to the wall.
Window frames you can simulate with texture, windows color too even transparency if you want..
1. Poly Extrude method (Recommended)
2. Boolean method (can do, but you can face poly overlapping)
3. Yours.

Those additional polys won't harm anything even you need few more textures..

Hmmm never would have thought of that. Gonna have to try that. Also I've read in a few posts that if you remove the bottom of the model it cuts down on ploys and frames but the model does not self shadow. Also fsfox I should be on Skype tonight.

Bottom will reduce very few polys, no one is able to spot that.. If scenery have around 30K polys and you delete some of the thickness of the wall or delete Floor poly you going to have 29700 polys... No difference really. I don't know about self shadowing, honestly my projects feel good not being manifold geometry. See ya in skype.. Bear in mind GMT so not too late.

Yes, but not always. If it is not Manifold then boolean will cut a hole. Hole has the edges, edges can be extruded and cup. Problem for windows solved. But if the Boolean cutter is more complex then yes manifold.
Actually guy was asking for Texturing experience.. :) :teacher:

yep, talking about "cookie cutter" :D, a cool tool. good tip, about texturing, a Little of theory and a lot of texturing, that's so.

Dan,

Did you use overhead lights to create your shading, or is it 'only' Ambient Occlusion?

The shading is brilliant!
