• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Dear all:

I have made a rotation beacon, but in FSX i see the correct circle shape only in the front and in the back, but if i see the beacon from the right or left i see the beacon like an oval instead of like a circle.

In 3ds max the animation is perfect but in FSX there is a problem.

Please help me.

I'm attaching the source for you, please try it.

Thanks.

Did you specify a range of 0 to 160 in the Animation Manager?

You are likely seeing an "oval" from oblique angles because of the perspective shift when viewing a 3d object from an angle...

Also, no textures are applied, which will making viewing rather difficult. :)

Dear Bill:

Yes, i have specified the range from 0 to 160 in the AnimationManager.

The project has a material with the colors red and white, you can apply it to the object.

You have to see the cylinder face from east to west or from west to east to see it like an oval, but if you see the object from north to south or south to north you will see it like a perfect circle.

See the attach picture, there is the oval face...

I hope you understand me?

Thanks.

I think I do, I have seen such distortions when editing objects that are part of a hierarchy. If you have attached an object to another using the link/attach tool then later you decide to edit the object, it can inherit movement from the parent object which causes stretch at some angles.
I suggest you break all links between objects, remove any keyframes and re-set pivot points.
Then after a back-up, key frame the object again.

You may even need to use the Reset X-from utility from the utilities panel, be careful with it though, it can flatten 3D objects. Next, Collapse the modifier stack.
Edit objects with transform set to "Local", there is a drop-down list on the top toolbar for these options.

20 mins later...
perhaps you should only attach objects to each other using the AttachPoint tool anyway.

Dear EssieP:

The rotating beacon has a perfect circle in front and back in 3DS Max 8.

The rotating beacon becomes oval just in FSX when you see it from certain angles from North to South or South to North.

Thanks.
