• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hey guys, I just started modeling like 2 days ago and have a couple of issues. I am modeling a Bede BD-5J and have problem making the engine "cowling". Its supposed to have rounded corners, the only issue is I cannot figure out a way to do it.

I have attached pics for you to see my issue, please help.

Hi!

looks good! What you can try to do is to add a new cylindrical object, convert it to a poly object and deform the shape until it fits the original. After that you modify your fuselage by dividing the edges and move the new vertices until they match the corners of the cylinder. When all the vertices of the two parts matches each other, you use "attach object" and select the cylinder. Now, you can weld the vertices to generate a smooth surface. You will also have to modify the smoothing groups in the end.
Have a look at some tutorials, like the most excellent and complete one from Milton Shupe. You will find it here:

thanks vitus, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Here is an updated pic. I don't pretend to model the cockpit as I barely even know how to model, but I plan to use this as a platform to learn how to do animations for fs etc.

Your BeDe is looking great!

Making mesh is a real challenge and is more strategy then anything. As you learn to make planes, you will learn to integrate rudders and wing roots into your fuselage mesh as a single piece. At first its impossible, but you learn after a while to combine them and weld vertices together and create some wild shapes into a single object.
