• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Help with night textures

OK, I'm a new user of FSDS (v3.5.1) and so far have been doing ok. My first major project was building a mountain cabin. I've got the main design down and it looks ok. My problem now is getting the night (window light)textures to work. I just can't get the FSDS procedure right. Can someone give me a quick tutorial on how to do this...the FSDS Help Manual leaves a little bit to be desired. Here's two pics of the texture files. The night texture has the "_LM" added to the filename.

Hi Mike
First nice cabin, making night texture for your objects is not hard just take the texture you have applied to the object open it in a graphics program darken the whole texture then brighten the windows or make them yellow if that’s the effect you want, next save this new texture with the exact same name but add the _lm
When you add you (day) texture to the texture list in FSDS there is a box to check under “Special Flags” for “night (add_LM to filename) make sure your check it and then make sure both of your textures are in a format that the flight sim likes and then make sure they are in the texture folder that you scenery is in.
I hope this helps

*** DISREGARD the red text copy below...I discovered what I was doing wrong. I was marking the "Night Texture" box on the LM texture instead of the day texture. It's working fine now. Thanks for your help.

Mike

OK Farfy...I think I am doing what you suggested.

I made a copy of the day texture and renamed it as js_cabin_lm.bmp". I use DXTBmp to convert the texture to a DXT3 format...was that correct? I then added it to the texture list making sure to check the "Night Texture" box, recompiled everything and copied the new texture over to my scenery's texture folder. I also made sure that I did a fresh start of FS before checking it out, but still no night texture.

If I read the help correctly, I don't have to do anything but add the new texture correctly. Correct?

Thanks,
Mike
