• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Guys,

Any one have an idea how to make the corner that circled in the picture below?

I try several things like connect and collapse but no result:banghead:

Best Regard,

Shaheen

Hi,

Are you trying to model the entire curved shape as a 3D object or are you using flat polygons and using a texture to get the right effects?

In the last case it should not be too hard, it is just a corner on the building. If you want to make it as a 3D object maybe you can try to loft the shape along a line that goes around the corner?

To get the effect - model the "box" shape as if it had straight corners. For the rounded edge around the top, select the edges and chamfer them. You probably need to do it twice to get the rounded effect.

From a distance, it will look rounded.

If you want to MODEL the middle "dip" you want to have your initial "box" mesh with two thin center sections.

Take the middle section all around and scale/move it slightly inward, then select that and the 'immediate' edges all around and give them a slight chamfer.

However, for the central dip - you might be better off with a careful bump map for that area. From a distance you'll "see" the depression, but it's just a good bump map.

It's actually pretty simple. Just draw a polygon in your favorite 3d program, select the face and extrude it. Then you'll have the basic shape. You can bevel the ends at 45 deg. angles or use a boolean cut, copy and paste, mirror and flip, etc. join the two parts. I hope the attachment works.

Simplest method in Max/GMax, as Arno suggested:

Draw a Line object in the shape you want, convert to "Spline Object."

Draw a Line object in the Path you desire (could be the entire shape of the building from above).

With the Path object selected, use Compound Objects/Loft and Select the Shape object. Voila! Instant 3d object!

Set the Options: Shape Steps and Path Steps as desired.

Note that I've also added a Smooth modifier to the stack and selected "Autosmooth."

Note also that you can (re)Edit your original Shape or the Path as desired, and the Loft(ed) object will reflect those Edits in real time! In the image below, I've (re)Edited the Path to create the entire building as seen from the top... ;)

oh

many methods I can use :D

Thanks guys for your help especially for you bill

I will give it a try

No problem. I enjoy a challenge! Please note that I made absolutely no effort whatever to "build to scale" as I was primarily interested in illustrating a technique.

However, building to scale would be a snap, particularly if you build the walls first! ;)

Then it would simply be a matter of trace-creating your Path object with the Line tool and "Snap to Vertex" enabled.

As Felix said though, there are many, many ways to create stuff in Max/GMax/FSDS/etc.

Remember that no tool is any better than the hands of the artist who weilds it... :D

come to think of it... that rounded rim is just a line spline with the mesh visible ..... chop to please.

Sorry,Just a quick one. How and where is the autosmooth and smooth?

Many thanks

Several places, actually! In the polygon sub-mode, it is towards the bottom of the rollout.

If you add a "Smooth" modifier to the stack, it is also towards the bottom of the rollout.

You may also use the "Help" function to learn more... :D

"bollot" is not in the Help file
