• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How do I edit the defualt roads?

There are several default roads in FSX that are placed at the worng place, I would like to place them at the right place, but I do not know how to do it. I would also like remove the roads and insert a tunnel instead, how do I do that?

I have never done this before, so if anybody could tell me how to do it, or link me to a guide that would be fine :)

First, you need to have FSX Deluxe and install the SDK from the DVD. Then update the SDK from the fsinsider site to match the version of FSX you are using (Accel has the Accel update sdk on its disk).

Next, you need to study the terrain portion of the sdk documentation, to understand how the default files are setup. Using this info you can find the appropriate default cvx file and load it into the tmfviewer tool. You can turn off all layers except for the "roads" within the tool.

You can download and install SbuilderX or FSX_KML tool to create your new roads. Both are based on the idea of using Google Earth or Virtual Earth as a background, which you trace over to create new roads. You also need to create an exclusion polygon with its property set to exclude roads. To create your tunnel, easiest is to simply stop the road going into the tunnel and start it up again at the exit. More involved would probably require creating a 3d object for the tunnel portal. It could be such an object is available in a freeware object library, though I don't recall seeing one.

Once you complete your design you can compile and test your replacement roads. You will probably find a break where your roads should connect to the existing roads outside of your project area (Unless you are doing something like an island where you will be replacing all the roads). If you load your new file in tmfviewer on top of the default cvx, you can see the breaks. You can take a screen shot of the tmfviewer and place in SBX (or possibly create an overlay in Google Earth for FSX_KML to allow you to adjust your project roads to match the existing default roads.
