Hello:

I looked for info I can't find or understand how to get a Google Earth background picture of a simple one runway default airport (MM0Q)and surrounding area of a few hundred yards.

I know that I must get a Google screenshot of the area, but at what resolution , what altitude, then how do you get that screenshot into the proper utl before compiling it to a bgl and placing it with ether ADE or Flight1

I have SBuilder ,Airport Editor 9x,Google Earth, PlanG and Flight1 scenery placer.
I read the manuals and as far as I'am concerned not one of them clearly explains how to do this.

You could try this:

http://www.ludowise.x10hosting.com/gmaps/rhumbamaps.html

It's a website that will give a large image of an area using Google, Yahoo or Bing! You can copy the bounds coordinates to a text file, then screenshot the large image. You may need more than one image if a lot of detail is needed.

The website is derived from a similar webpage made by Luis Sa... it's a common way of getting a background image into SBuilder, ground2K4, etc... SBuilderX has the ability to get an image directly from tile downloads of these types of sources. Those 'maps' are foune in SBuilderX's Work folder, along with a needed text file.

Hi gdr1944, Hi Dick !
May I add something ?
I use Fireshot ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/fireshot/ ) to copy the big picture (3200x1400) into my old PSP7 and it's very easy to put it down in Sbuilder, AFX or ADE9X ; i saved the related coordinates into a Notepad .TXT file.
Before, I used the printscreen touch to capture pictures, shame on me :)

Hope this helps.

Hi JCP.

You're right. You need to have some sort of browser utility that will take a larger-than-view screenshot, to capture the large pictures.

Also, looking up in the threads, I see I saved a 'sticky' thread named GMaps, that explains both Luis' and my versions of the websites.

Thank you everyone

Thanks:

I have good old PSP7 also.

I have about 5 different projects so I'm saving all your info.
