• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How on Earth did they do this?

This is brilliant. The Carenado Meridian. The interior leather work is amazing. How on earth did they do this stitching? Do you think maybe its 3d? Or perhaps 3D modeled and the textures burned? My goodness.

I'll bet they are making super high polygon seats, then burning the textures from them, and mapping them to basic parts, like in the gaming industry. Except that this still looks like extreme poly modelling.

The stitchings on that seat headrest is utterly real looking. Also the Abient Occlusions are brighter inside then mine. On mine, when I burn the interiors, they appear black on the ceiling from lack of light.

Check out the seams along the front of that leather covered instrument hood. Goodness... That is so nice.

I'm almost to a place where I'll be doing similar with some custom leather interior. I'm going to experiment with a few ideas. I don't think the stitching will be too difficult. And baking the normal map from high-res will certainly be part of it.

I wonder what they would use to make those stitches in 3D. Something like Substance Painter? I see a lot of this type of stuff from upcoming Milviz projects (most notably the C-130) and it seems like they're taking screenshots in Max of either super fine details that are either "sculpted" in with another program, or possibly from a displacement map. Their FB page has some jaw-dropping shots. Just...Incredible.

I'm not sure who this person/group is, but they have obviously done work for Milviz & Carenado.

Good find, Robert.

That is a LOT of stitches there, FSXar! Goodness.
