• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 How set max view distance in istant scenry 2 ?

I use istant scenery 2...it's great software.
I have a problem, all my scenery , seen from a distance, are heavy and have a drop in frames. I think the problem is what the PC tries to display all objects in the scenery even at extended distances. there is a way to set the maximum distance over which an object will no appear?

Hi,

You can't. The only way to limit the visibility is if the object has level of details in it. But unless you made the objects yourself, you can't add those.

Thank's for you post...
I create myself object with gmax..and i create verly low poligon object but scenery, only if watch too far cause low fps...

Hi,

Is this for fsx or fs2004? For fsx you might be able to gain some performance from drawcall batching if you have placed many instances of the object.

Else you would need to add an empty lod to the objects to let them disappear earlier. For fsx the empty lod needs to have one triangle btw, in fs2004 you can make really empty lods.

It's for fs2004....
the only way I know is to export the scenery using the Fs2002 plugin and set the maximum view distance

It may be a good idea to use the FS9 gamepack for FS2004.

I am not certain, but FS2002 derived objects may be killing off performance (as they do in FSX)

You can then incorporate LODs within the model geometry to reduce the load at a distance.

Hi,

For fs2004 you can try to add an empty lod to limit the visibility. Another option is to use my mdl tweaker tool to add a condition, you can then use the distance to reference point variable to specific a visibility distance.

In general an empty lod is better, because the optimal distance depends on screen resolution as well, so it differs per user.
