• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

how to create PAPi approach lights

hi, i was wondering if there were any tutorials on how to create my own or place some PAPI lights in my new airport, any way i can do that? thank you in advance :)

Depends on what exactly you want to do:

1. If you are OK about keeping the default PAPI light effects and just want physical lamps it is enough to simply model them and place them exactly where the PAPI light effects are. Placement tools with in-sim-realtime preview (Instant Scenery, Whisplacer, simDirector) might come in handy for this.

2. If you want custom effects, you might want to look at this section of the SODE documentation: http://sode.12bpilot.ch/?document=the-xml-definition-file/conditionalvisibility-separation-plane (there are sample PAPI lights in the SODE examples so have a look at those too) This one is a bit more complicated to learn though.

2a. There are approaches of modeling a separation face and hiding the lights behind it using certain alpha test levels. Note that this approach also affects the visibility of nearby transparent objects, such as 3D grass or runway lights.

Ok so, i added the PAPI lights i wanted, and they work great except... this.
they appear under the scenery layer, any way i can bring them up a little?

I see. You have a ground polygon there. There's a bug in the engine causing this.
You may need to go for the second option I posted above.

i found the model, just need to know how to add the lights to it, i've never done coding before so i'm completely lost when it comes to adding lights with codes...

Have a look at the sample xml file provided. Basically you can just copy that and change the placement entries.

can anyone send me already made bgl papi-4 lights on the forum that i can just load into MCX and place, cause i use fs2004 and i'm completely lost with it...

i'll give it a try, i got the SODE PAPI-4 model to work on fs2004 but without the lights, i guess i'll try making the lights with that model as
well

i deleted the SODE models and used AFLT tools, but i have one small issue, the PAPI-4 lights are facing the correct way on runway 25, but when i try and place others on runway 7 they're always facing backwards (visible from the terminal and not from final approach), how can i fix that?
