• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to display AI objects as static objects?

as the title says, i'm trying to display AI statically, so AI that sits still in one spot like a static object. I've tried using the OPT to place AI, and setting it to "sleep", but it doesn't seem to do anything.

PS: I've never worked with AI before so this is all new to me.

tried it. every time i try to use the OPT to place it, it simply wont display anything with the OPT until i cancel and select a "working" model and hit add.:banghead::banghead:

Don't know what could happen. SAMM is a specific tool for that pourpouse, it's intended for converting ai planes or user planes to static planes.
when you convert the airplane look for the option engine running and uncheck, there are a few option to choose, ger down, up, etc. Read the manuals.

did that to start with. Oh well i'll just go design a new airport for a while.

PS: i'm using FSX SDK default OPT if that makes any difference.

I think that what you are trying to do only works within a mission. If you are trying to make scenery only, you can place scenery objects only, hence the need to convert AI models to scenery objects first.

i've used SAMM to convert them, but they do what i described before. they mess up the default OPT so it cant preview things until you hit cancel and open it up to something that CAN display.

Have you added your converted static airplane to any object library ?, anyway sorry, but I can understand your sentence, my english is very limited. don't know what is all about "mess up", and cancel etc. regards

Its ok. :) Mess up, means to fail, goof, not do right, screw up, or ruin. Cancel, is to terminate, stop, end. its a button.

i did not try to use the object library, i just tried to make a single object. Do i need an object library?

Why not plan as AI Traffic but make there depart time 0100hrs so they sit there all day.
Samm is ok but each object has loads of MBs which hammer FRs so dont use to many.

Example
FSX A330-MRTT as a pilotable 76.9mb
FSX A330-MRTT AI,same aircraft but stripped of what aint needed 26.4mb

So AI model made static with Samm saves over 50mb/aircraft.

hope his helps

regards
