• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

How to ...TCALCX?

Then that means you are not entering any description info in the properties of your line in GoogleEarth. Generally it's best to enter some description info there...and then remove that and replace with your tag once you are modifying your .kml.

If you don't, it appears you won't get a <description> construct.

At least that's how I do it.

OK; I will do that and hopefully will cure the problem.

Can you explain what's the problem? Is it that you can't tag your polyline with the FreewayTraffic tag?

I never enter descriptions in Google Earth, I always leave it blank, and just tag using FSX KML.

In anycase, if you need help tagging your polyline, just upload your KML file here, and I will have a go at tagging it for you.

"Can you explain what's the problem? Is it that you can't tag your polyline with the FreewayTraffic tag?"

I have had a lot of problem with this. BUT finally, I got first victory today: I was able to successfully add line one traffic (one in each direction) in Lakeshore Dr. in Chicago BUT on GE generated coordinates.

That's why I sooooooooooooo want to have the TCalcX working properly (I do have SimConnect SDK installed in my computer) so with it I can more efficiently grab the actual FSX coordinates to replace the ones generated with GE.

ALSO, HOW can I edit the tag for 2 or more lanes?

BUT I don't see "C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC_32\Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect\10.0.60905.0__31bf3856ad364e35\Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll"

Hi dito.

To view the GAC folders, you need to enable "show hidden files and folders" in your Folder options / view.

I haven't run into anyone else having this problem. TCalcX is pretty simple as far as Simconnect usage. If you can run any simconnect program, you should be able to run this one. You could try to copy the simconnect.dll from the SDK to the same folder as TCalcX... might work, but I'd still wonder why the normal path doesn't work.

In 1.05 it defaults to 1 lane.

But the upcoming 1.06 it has the ability to specify the number of lanes for each freeway polyline.

However, in the meantime you will have to open the freeway DBF file that is generated when you click build, and edit the record. Change NumberOfLanes from 1 to whatever.

Then manually execute the RUNSDKTOOLS.BAT file which will build the BGL with your custom freeway DBF.

OK! But how to get to the "show hidden files and folders"?

I WILL TRY THAT TOO!

Thanks,

Hi Matthews,

I did what you recommended with DBF file and change the number of lanes. But that file has hardly any information in it and I do not see exactly where I put the number of lanes I want (e'g.2), save it then manually execute the RUNSDKTOOLS.BAT file in order to expect the intended results. Could you please post a sample of the DBF content with edited number of lanes? Then I would try to do it exactly!

Look for a that starts with "FWX" and ends with ".DBF".

For example, if your KML file is called "Test.KML" then look for FWXTest.DBF.

That DBF is a DBase file that you open with DBase or some other DBase editor (don't use notepad).

Here is a DBF editor that has a 15 day free trial
http://www.dbf2002.com/download.html

When you open the DBF file you will see it has numerous columns,

NumberOfLa
TrafficDir
UUID

Change NumberOfLa from 1 to some other value, eg 3 to get 3 lanes of traffic.

In the upcoming FSX_KML 1.06 you can set the number of lanes and traffic direction from within in FSX_KML so its very easy. I will try to release 1.06 over the weekend sometime.

In the meantime please try the technique above.

Matthews,

Thank you for cllear explanation and the link: It did work!!!
And as for the weekend, I'll be on the lookout, too!

My only remaining ptoblem is why TCalcX refuses to work properly in my computer. I copied a SimConnect.dll 10.0.60905.0 thing to the TCalcX_002 folder within FSX Main but still no success. So, until this problem is solved I will still be using GE coordinates, which are not totally in line with FSX.

Thanks-a-million!

About TCalcX

Hi, dito

TCalcX, and its others versions, is a very useful and simple tool to use. It doesn't need even to be installed, but only to have its files expanded to a folder, anywhere in your computer.

In that folder you should have the files, as below:

tcalcxps0.jpg

If the files you have are not the same, just delete your folder and unzip the file you downloaded, again.

Even if you find you have already followed those steps, please, do again. Do not forget to read the post in:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4273

To use TCalcX, just open FSX go to any place you want to see its coordinates and others informations and load TCalcX. It will find the dll and connect to FSX, showing the informations on the screen.

Check the box "TCalcX on Top" so its little screen will be superimposed to FSX.

There is no mistery.

José

Surely I Will try That!!

Hi José,

Thank you for the helping hand on TCalcX. Somehow its installation in my computer does NOT show the files as the ones you posted. Now I thing that's where the problem is. I am going the re-do everything and hopefully the solutions has been found !!!

(José, by the way do you speak Portuguese? I do.)

I am Brazilian

Hi, dito

Yes, my language is Portughese, but in this forum we must follow the rules and speak the common language: English.

To repair a bad SimConnect installation you need to do these steps (quoted from the relevant Announcement in my Support Forum at http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?f=54 ):

========================================

Do not resort to a complete FSX re-install, as the same mis-install of SimConnect seems to re-occur. Instead try the following:

1. Find and delete the following file folder (change the C:\WINDOWS part to your Windows folder if it isn't in the standard place):

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect_67c7c14424d61b5b_10.0.60905.0_x-ww_429211e9

2. Insert the insert the FSX CD, and run the repair utility. This should do the trick.

Pete,

I will try this trick also if the above fails. Yes, I won't re-install the FSX.

What do you mean by this statement? Now I am confused...

Dear Mace,

I am so sorry if I confused you--you are a great help to me. What I meant is based on what you have said, "Now, that line you drew in GoogleEarth may not match FSX's Lakeshore Drive perfectly." (http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=121&topic_id=392360&mesg_id=392426&page=1).

I have tried to grab the FSX coordinates writing them down manually. But even when changed to decimals the one I get are less numbers (e.g. -87.452168) compared to the ones FS_KML seems to accept (e.g. 37.081502805627
-113.593256835963). So the cure is trying to use TCalcX, which is till not working properly in my computer.

But there is hope!

All I meant was that FSX's *data* may not be as accurate as the real world.

GoogleEarth is typically very accurate. But the data Microsoft used for Lakeshore Drive might be off. What that means for you, is it gives you two options:

1) add your FreewayTraffic line to Microsoft's existing Lakeshore Drive..., or
2) remove Microsoft's Lakeshore Drive (Exclude_Roads_2_Lane,...etc.) and re-make Lakeshore Drive using GoogleEarth data, then add your traffic on top of YOUR more accurate road.

I just figured you wanted the quickest easiest way, and that would be to just put your Traffic down on the existing Lakeshore Drive.

I have tried to grab the FSX coordinates writing them down manually. But even when changed to decimals the one I get are less numbers (e.g. -87.452168) compared to the ones FS_KML seems to accept (e.g. 37.081502805627

You only need six decimal places. Don't even worry about TCalcX.
Not sure what you mean by "ones FS_KML will accept"...it will accept -87.1 if you want. FS_KML works fine with -87.452168

Besides six numbers are easier to remember than 15.

That would be very encouraging. However, more than once, when I had entered the coordinates manually (e.g. ...<coordinates> -87.452168, 41.xxxxxx,etc) and later pressed "Build" in FS_KML, I got an error message pointing out that the first cordinates entry was "Not a valid foating point" and it would not procede.
