• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

ILS Alignment Test & ADE

So, I'm almost completed with my next airport project, KSGH. I've redone most of the airport scenery, realigned the taxiways and aprons, added ANG parking (thanks to jim and reggie), etc. However, I've noticed flying into rwy 24 that when I'm on the ILS localizer, it appears to be misaligned with the runway. Everytime I've flown ILS approach, it aligns me to the left of the runway.

So here's my question: how can you tell/check to see if the localizer is truly aligned correctly with the runway? Is there something in ADE that I can check/change to do this? If I do have to realign the ILS localizer, does this require all the work that jim has mentioned in previous threads (i.e. changing waypoints, etc)?

If you're really ambitious, try to fly the 24 ILS approach at KSGH and let me know if you think the ILS localizer is not aligned with the runway. It almost seems like the localizer is aligned to the VOR at the airport not the runway.

Thanks for your help.

There is no offset to RWY 24/ ILS 24 for the default KSGH

Did you by chance change the runway heading a small amount or the localizer?

No, I noticed this before I started working on the airport and haven't moved anything since. It's weird because it seems like the ILS localizer is aligned to the VOR, not the runway.

If you have the time, try to fly into KSGH using the 24 ILS approach. Everytime I've flown it, I'm aligned left of the runway. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

I also flew the approach for the ILS 24.

What Plane are you using? Always test with a default FSX plane such as the Cess 172 or the Baron.

Be sure your winds are set from the west and not the South. A Crosswind from the South will appear that the plane is flying towrad the VOR due to the crosswind/heading effect.

Okay, thanks for your help guys. I guess it just seemed that the ILS was off (maybe because of the crosswinds).

It looks fine to me:

George,

Quick question. I noticed in your screenshot that your instruments are not set correctly for the 24 ILS approach. If you use the localizer, set your NAv1 to 111.3 and set your VOR1 to 238 and follow the glideslide and center the needle on the localizer, do you still get the same results?

I am hopeless with IFR, how about this?
